What do you guys do in terms of shoes vs work environment. Do you walk around with your biker shoes the whole day, or do you take your work shoes in your back pack?

I have a locker at work in which my work shoes live overnight and my bike gear lives during the day.

Work shoes are in my draw or under the table at work.

Exactly, work shoes go in the back pack. Iv also got a locker to keep my stuff in, but no wet suit...i don't have a need for it.

My jacket is waterproof, although the outside does get damp, but by the end of the day it's dry for the ride home, i wear padded waterproof adventure pants with iron tip safety boots until i can save up for some biker boots, safety boots are also waterproof.

Edit:It's only my socks that get wet since the safety boots are more like shoes, I now always keep a spare pair of socks in my locker.

Great way to lose your toes imo
If the sole of the boot twisted enough you'll not only be looking at a broken ankle, but you may also be looking for where your toes ended up after the steel cap sliced them off.

Same here. Have to kit up for work (Formal Pants, shirt and Tie) so I have a pair of black and a pair of Brown formal shoes. Usually try and get them home on the Friday for a polish and swap them out with another pair of each colour.

seriously? I thought I was relatively safe with "safety" boots!

Safety boots are designed to protect against (stupidly heavy) objects falling from above onto your toes and from piercing objects. And when tested against those impacts they do incredibly well, I believe some can handle 1000kgs of vertical load.

But motorcycle accidents will not typically experience either of those. Twisting, bending, grating and side impacts are most common. Now yes, some safety boots, if they have a very stiff sole and coverage for your ankles may be sufficient. But imo, if you can easily walk in safety shoes it is likely that the cap may become a danger. Think about how easy it is standing on your toes with safety boots on, mine I can already feel the edge of the cap resting against my foot. Now imagine going 60km/h and being in that position. I can also twist/bend my safety boots by hand in several places, my motorcycle boots I can't.

And of course, motorcycle boots are also not all the same either, you still need to check them out and see if they are properly made. At the end of the day I always tell people, buy the best you can reasonably afford when it comes to safety gear.

Thanks for the guidance, it makes sense. I'll prioritise those boots, its the only essential piece of safety gear I'm missing.
 
I was at KTM Rad and spoke to a salesman there who had recently had a fall. Slid for about 35m on his side in jeans and boots, leg trapped between exhaust and road.

Without boots he would now be footless from the scrape. As it is, boots are trashed but he walks fine.

But what boots? I was set on getting a set of the forma adventure boots, but I've since read that MX boots are better? What is the consensus here?
