Volvo drivers used to be the butt of jokes in the UK. The cars attracted attention because you couldn't turn the headlights off (safety feature) and the drivers inevitably wore hats. I guess times change.:p
 
 
The Audi S3 is an awesome car along with the 135i Coupe (convertible is GAY), if you're looking for power and handling. Else consider an Audi RS4 and everything on adamr's list.

What's the max you're prepared to spend? R499k? Audi A5 looks ugly without the S-Line kit and 19-inch wheels.

Honestly its the strangest thing. The man wants a cabriolet FFS!! ...and a fairly stylish one at that... What makes you think a snub nosed station wagon is even vaguely relevant?

They look ok, not great. Best is in a darker colour like black/charcoal with the badge on the grill removed and the chrome beading around the grill colour coded to the car

Lumina's not a convertible, it looks like a dog threw up on the designer's drawings and they didn't bother making any changes, it's American, is slow as hell for a 6.0L engine, is heavier on juice than a Hi-Ace with a leak in its petrol tank and looks like it should be driven by the mayor of Brakpan. Not my cup of tea thanks...:D

Your price bracket makes it really difficult. Maybe get a toy like the new MX5 if you want the drop-top and still want a bit of fun. Invest the change and in a few years get a nice luxury car and keep the mx5 as a toy.

If you want the luxury, sophistication, elegance and build quality, I'd say get the SLK350.

If you want something different and something that stands out, get yourself a 67-69 Mustang convertible. Should be able to pick up a good example for about R250 000 or so.

For my budget it seems I'm fine as long as I go for second hand - 2007+ which I am perfectly OK with. I'm not a fan of the classics in the least little bit btw - I've never understood the attraction to antiquated technology, ancient designs, piss poor fuel economy and less luxury than an entry level Fiat of our era...:confused:

What about a 350 or 500 Fastback Mustang ?

Sorry but I can't for the life of me care about fuel usage, antique technology or ancient designs :D Those are the most beautifull cars ever created.... FULL STOP !

They do nothing for me. Lambourghini Diablo is about as classic as I'd buy, for the sake of it being a classic. The others hold absolutely no meaning to me whatsoever - I wasn't brought up as a grease-monkey...

The Lamborghini Countach was by far the sexiest Lambo ever built :o

But that's just me, I love classics :)
