News server related queries

Maybe we can ask the mods to add four points to the first post in big letters?

1) The Newshost Site has nothing to do with the news servers, SAIX and IS!

2) These servers are heavily overloaded, esp. at the end of the month. Please do not post a notice that the server is down. It is probably not down, just very busy, try again in 24 hours.

3) The SAIX news server appears to be shaped during the day.

4) The Newshost site was sold on 23rd April 2008, apparently to Bitfarm.
I'm sure Highflyer_GP would be more than happy to add that.

i just get my nzbs from a internation site and use local account to download but now that im capped i used greenlabs request section and they replied fast and uploaded what i wanted (THIS IS NOT SPAM JUST A FACT)

it seems the saix one has fallen on its arse. is the IS one working?

In fact, shaping turns on at 08:00 (weekdays, excluding public holidays) and turns off at 18:00

Weekends are unshaped 24/7

Correction to this.... as stated in the post above I can confirm that SAIX is shaped on public holidays. Obviously the system is just set up to shape Monday to Friday with no differentiation between public holidays or not.

Even the call more time (R7 call) doesn't apply to public holidays.
Or didn't 2 years ago anyway.

I found that out the hard way, when I had dialup.
Got charged about R300 a day.
R1500 worth of phone bill.

Me too! :(

Cellphone companies see a Public Holiday as OFF PEAK
Telkom doesn't. Callmore time only starts at 19h00 tonight.

Primary url is news.saix.net - not that it matters, many other URL's are being redirected to the same IP address. So just do a dns lookup for news.saix.net to confirm that you are using the right server

Keep in mind that there are probably 10 users or more per 1 slot so to speak on the server. And it is weekend. And it is end of the month. So there must be quite a queue for connections... Just keep it running, it will connect eventually. I've seen that if you download cached content, it will work much better - how you determine what is cached or not is up to you...

I know... I wasn't the one asking about the connections not working. Look at some of my other posts. Not sure if it's in this thread. I always leave Grabit on cos it connects eventually.

Why do I keep getting port 119 blocked. I have no firewall. How to open it?

ok, i've read the first 9 pages of this and then got over reading...
i have a bit of a problem.
i tried nzb things for the first time last night on newshost.
i downloaded an album's nzb and tried to grab it with grabit. some of the tracks (4) came out as audio files, the remaining 8 came out as text files. i tried using yencode or whatever but that didnt do anything. i kept retrying to download those files that didnt come out right and they kept coming through as text files... so now i have text files instead of audio files.
any ideas?
btw - the album was cached.

I get that error too, just leave it, it'll come right eventually.

That error is the "no connection to" error
Yeah, just leave it, once it starts, it normally goes quite nicely.

For crying out loud! Red text on gray background!!! What are you guys smoking?!?!?!?:sick::mad::mad:

Hey guys,
Can someone please help me.

1. What International newsservers are there which you recommend?
2. Can you practically download everything at full speeds?
3. Are the prices good/ compared to the service and its speeds, and content.
4. Is there any problems with the international servers?
5. Any other info I must be aware of?

Thanks,
Its greatly appreciated.

also, what's the 1000 download limit I see next to my profile? What happens if I hit that?!? Should not be anytime soon but still. Money going to change hands?

I also wondered that RR.
It was set that high JUST before it was announced that BF was the owner, maybe the previous owner had a worry and decided to up it for us so as to give us a bit of a 'unlimited' go before ... whatever happens.
