So this is not a CW problem, but possibly something that relates to one of DJ's/CW's previous posts.

After the last Telkom techie visit (lots of storms in the area, ended up with severe noise on the line), my sync rate had been adjusted to 7mb. I got this corrected back to 10mb after the Telkom fault had been resolved, as this is where it has been for ~1yr.

However at random times during the day, the ISP connection on the router just dies. this lasts for all of 3 - 3,5 mins, then all is well again. It is not exceptionally regular, but seems to happen every couple hours. Is this a result of the ASSIA, or am I overestimating the influence this automation has?

Could be copper damage. I've been on 20MB ADSL2+ for years, even before it was officially launched. My line is now syncing at 15MB due to line damage and Telkom say that's good enough they don't need to fix it.

OK, the slow NNTP is definitely due to CW's news servers. I got a different news provider and now things are running full speed again. Looks like CW news server can only get speeds of about 1.5 to 2m.

Guys are you happy with your performance on Crystal?

Looking at a capped 120gb account. I game, I stream and I download. The latter always at night and the former whenever I feel like it.

I've read good things now that CW is on IS backbone...no issue or packetloss rubbish?

It's between CW and WA.

CW are on the same network as WA - Internet Solutions

CW Support is 10x better in my opinion.

CW Billing is better in my opinion too.

I'm happy on my Uncapped account, Performs as well as capped does.

Considering moving over to Crystal Web next month.

I will be sharing a house with two other people. We game and download and stream. Obviously not at the same time.

Currently on a capped 10mbps account but 300gig won't do for 3 people.

Any recommendations?

On 10mb uncapped although only synching at 8mb. Netflix is superb, youtube is great and I am on my 2nd month with NTV.MX. Besides the occasional buffer, NTV has also been superb. Watching all the cricket as well as most Super15
Newsgroups run a line speed.

Not at home during the day so cant comment, but weekends are also great.

Dont game so cant comment.

Downloads can sometimes be a bit erratic, but this is not to much of an issue for me.

Service is superb.

Wont be going anywhere else soon.

If you're sharing the connection with others in the house doing gaming, downloading, and streaming, it may be best to opt for an uncapped account and get the guys to schedule large downloads from midnight. If they can stick to that schedule then we're happy, and I can assure you, you'll be happy too. otherwise if you need the full speed downloads in peak periods then a capped account may be the best option.

When this is detected on the account, the backend will immediately prioritise the gaming packets to try to prevent the stream from affecting your gaming latency. So far so good. But because streaming takes high priority it can pull your full line speed, and on DSL technology this can cause latency spikes before it hits our network. Say, Netflix for example, where it may attempt to stream in HD with a solid 4Mbps connection, and ends up consuming the full bandwidth available on your line. We can try on our end to prioritise these packets dynamically which is what happens, however there's no accounting for what it does on the Telkom line itself before it reaches our network. We always recommend applying some basic QoS on your router if it supports it, to try to avoid these sorts of issues. :)

Not a gamer download big print files for work and some Netflix.

CW (IS) will be miles better than AH with Netflix (from my experience).

Downloading is pretty much the only thing that does work on AH capped IMO.

Not to mention WA have their own "special" shaping profiles
