Quick question, which packages include the news server access? It is mentioned but not defined anywhere on the site I can find?

On product page:

On news server page:

It's free for all home accounts. Not setup for business accounts as standard but we are currently doing so for business accounts. This will change in the future though, however if you were provisioned one, it's yours to use.

We also employ two news servers:

Standard IS which we recommend as the primary server because it's locally cached;
And a premium news server with more articles and better retention which should serve as secondary

Cool thanks. I need to switch over to CW soon then :)

Finally finished reading through all 87 pages of " Warning about Crystal web throttling HTTP downloads" and I must commend CW, DJ and Paul on the way they handled their replies. Made me proud to be a CW member.

Highlight of the thread was Paul calling out the "unspecified troll" I LOL'd HARD!!! :D

damn, switched to the test account to game now after being told earlier it will come right and wow, lowest ping I've ever seen in DDO :wtf:

Gaming latency on CW is the best I have ever had from any ISP. Lowest ping, most stable. This alone has made me a customer for life (I hope).

@CW or anyone that can help plz.

Just want to ask your stance on DSTV CatchUp Plus. I have an Explora but haven't connected it to my ADSL yet.
Reason I haven't done so is I am unsure if I can control if and when it pulls down the catchup plus content.
I imagine a situation where I'm busy online and everything is k@k slow, I start troubleshooting my connection only to find it was the Explora pulling episodes.

So basically, I just wanna know if you guys see any trends wrt to Explora pulling catchup plus data ie. does it happen at anytime of the day or does the catchup plus content only download at certain times?

If this has been addressed before I apologize for missing it.

Press Catch Up, then ALT, then Play, and the download manager should pop up. I'm not 100% sure on this one to be honest. I don't use DSTV's Catch Up Service at all and so haven't personally tested this other than looking at bandwidth charts where I've often notice that their content is rate limited on downloads to what appears to be around 2Mbps.

Right.

First problem with Crystal Web has arisen.

Look at this pic. Sorry it's a cam pic of a TV - no print screen on media keyboard and I don't the shortcut for it...yet.

Anyway.

On the right you will see YouTube performance capped at 200kB odd. On the left you will see Afrihost capped playing the same video. I ran this test multiple times on multiple videos and services. Everything is being capped. I am on home capped btw.

What gives?

I ran WinMTRs - showed no problems. I've been on chat with support about this same issue yesterday as well.

I don't care about downloads being shaped on capped at all...but if you are messing with streaming then I want to know please.

Nope, no messing with the streaming. But there are some changes on the backend taking place which shouldn't be having an impact at all but I've seen two reports that they may.

I'll look into this for you and get back to you, but please also PM me your username in the interim so I can investigate the raw data.

Thanks the bolded part answered all I needed to know :D
3.5Mbps minus 2Mbps still leaves me with some room to wiggle :p

I have that performance daily for the last week. This seems to last till 17:00. Then corrects itself.

That smacks of scheduled limit that is being imposed.

Have pm'd you my details.

Just signed up for a test account as neither my telkom nor any other isp accounts connect.....

As long as at the end of the day, there will exist an uncapped account for an average user like me who is completely unpredictable - yet does not use excessive amounts of bandwidth.

Absolutely. And I'm rather excited about what's in store for you guys now as well. We're about to launch an SA first (hopefully before month's end) and then start rolling in the changes* very quickly.

*Read it as good news.

CW can you confirm if this is the case? Im looking at moving over from Afrihost with all their issues on their network and don't want to walk into another ISP that shapes capped accounts.

Believe me this is not the norm.

I've only noticed this the last few days. Around 5pm my speeds increase again to full.

I've literally watched the bandwidth go from 200 to 450.

So damn strange I tell you. From 5pm onward there are no problems :)

Can still, despite this issue, recommend them wholeheartedly.

Came from AH myself and CW has none of the packetloss BS issues.

Home capped is however shaped on p2p, nntp and some http services during the day though. Just to be clear :)

Read their product FAQs for complete breakdowns.

Great to hear.

I'm not a heavy P2P downloader but sometimes download at night so not an issue.

Good to read that CW is solid for gaming makes me want to sign up before I've canceled with AH.
