There appears to be a problem with the speed test on myBB site.

Mybroadband uses a server I think that is located in Terco which is 196.10.98.18 for the JHB server.

IS does not peer there so the traffic goes to the uk and back causing the latency.

Also on another note not sure if it's just me or for everyone IS DNS servers are SLOW today. Switched to google DNS resolved the slow browsing....

CW, you've been hinting at exciting changes that are in the pipeline. Can you confirm when these will be made available? I don't want to be in a situation where a product more suited to my needs are available and I have to wait before I can make any changes.

Fanks!

From what I've read and gathered between the lines they want to streamline their product offering. I won't be surprised if they have products which focus on the hours of the day kind of thing.

I am hoping for fiber announcements though. At this rate I doubt the ESR in my area will get an upgrade soon :(

Hey hey, got all the details via email but I got 2 of the same mail and after thinking it was just a double send, I see the one has a activation date in March this year? Just wanna see what that's about ....... no double billing here please :p

Product: Crystal Clear Standard Capped 450GB (90 Gigs + 360GB)
Activation Date: 2015-03-13

Ok paid up for June, will give you guys a one month tester and if all works out I will renew.

The 100gb limit on the news server however is a prohibitive for me. WA doesnt put a limit on the data. Ill stay signed up for a month, if the limit affects me I will have to move back until you guys have a better offer.

100GB on the premium news server and unlimited on the free news server (which is IDENTICAL to the WA one) so you're getting what WA provides and more.

Thanks, im aware of that one but was unsure of the performance. If its the same as WA, then no problems. Is the premium one worth using over the IS one?

Edit: Ah, I see they are one in the same. Interesting...

Yes so the news.is.co.za one will work and the premium one. So you can use both at the same time. news.is.co.za no data limit but 5 connection limit and only works on IS based accounts. The crystalweb is a premium account that basically works on any account with 100GB data limit and requires your username and password.

So after having read all these great reviews on mybroadband, it seemed like an easy choice for me to move over to Crystalwebs uncapped home account.. Little did i know what i was getting myself into..

I wasn't the happiest that i had to limit my downloads to 6hour time frames starting from midnight.. but figured if it was unshaped and uncapped and unlimited as crystalweb claims.. I should have been able to do about 8gig a night on a 4mb account, which would be sufficient to get through the few downloads i do a month..

To my complete shock.. I have realised i only get a few 100meg up to 2gig done a night if im lucky.. which means my downloads average between 20-100kb/s during this off-peak download period... as we speak, im getting a lovely 15kb/s on 7 different torrents each who have thousands of seeders.

Fair enough shape me during business hours.. I understand if i download at those sort of speeds, but for heavens sake at 12:00am at night you telling me its normal to get 10-15-20kb/s???

Have emailed crystalweb a good couple of times over the last 2 weeks, but no one has bothered to reply or look at this problem.. It's simply been swept under the table like my query did not exist..

I managed to speak to the "online chat" support personnel this week who have promised to look into my problem and get back to me.. but excuse after excuse.. no1 bothers to come with a solution or mail me back.. It's like i need to run after them.. and i'm ignored anyways

Well anyways.. Just thought i'd share my shocking experience... I did not want to resort to this as i was more than happy to give crystalweb a chance to proove themselves.. unfortunately they have failed horribly, and before more people get sucked into this isp, i just thought i'd put the truth out there..

Look after your clients, if you want them to look after you.. Don't bull **** and make empty promises.

Wow, This is hectic stuff... What uncapped account have you signed up for? basic or premium?

Basic home uncapped..

After Hours Unshaped

Don't worry about your downloads being shaped. Just let them fire off after hours and wake up to a completed queue each day.
"

Yeah right... It's more like waiting a week for 8 gigs to finish

Oh, Those are the normal IS star rated accounts I think, So your shaping level would also be determined by your star rating as well.

My advice would be, Upgrade to their premium uncapped as it's really worth the extra money you would pay.

Star rating is not supposed to effect the "After hours" period.. Besides i'm at work during the day so hardly use the account during the day.. there's still no excuse for this

Why not just go for a capped account? The after 12 addition gigs run at full line speed.

Just tested a torrent on my line and it's running between 950KB/s & 1.1MB/s.

AFAIK torrents is a best effort service on any network, How are your other things like gaming, streaming, browsing etc?

If you want quality, unfortunately in south africa you will need to pay a premium price for a premium product.

Get a capped account maybe?

I'm sure there is something wrong with your account. Wait for the CW rep to respond, I'm positive he will sort you out.

A question - why does the backup news server never connect? Does it have to be activated or something? I put in the details exact as I got them in the email but it will not connect and the primary server has 7 articles at 98% and frozen :(
