i got to be honest here, im using their uncapped 4 mb account for about 2 weeks now and it works perfectly, connected all the time, only unotelly needs an ip update every now and again... streaming is excellent, downloading is not too bad either...

only 1 question... how many gigs do i get before my downloads get capped?

Install unohelper if you're on pc and it never has an issue with the ip again.

Just upgraded to a 4meg line :D and running at line speed, best ISP so far

Trying to update Elder Scrolls online - 13gb patch. Was running fine earlier today @ 1mb/s so I left it running. Got back now and noticed it's running at 60kb/s.

I am getting full speed when doing a speed test though.

how long did the upgrade take?

About 24 hrs maybe more, was all due to Telkom taking their time in upgrading my line from 2meg to 4meg, the change in data package took less than an hour with Crystal Web. You'll only see the increase in speed after the line upgrade though.

CW was talking about DynDNS, and I believe that Unotelly can work with DynDNS, which would be cool.

is your line with CW or Telkom?

DynDNS can now be added to any account for free - an agent can do it instantly over chat. Please be sure that you understand any possible security risks that exist before doing so.

Slow connection problem. http://n1.netalyzr.icsi.berkeley.edu/summary/id=43ca253f-9838-30753aa3-528c-405b-8898

That's a link to one of the tests support asked me to do, it didn't load while we were chatting but I managed to get it to complete after the third attempt. Does anyone know what might be the problem? I'm on the 40 Meg connection, with mweb details everything is fine but I have trouble when using crystal web. International traffic is the problem. I can stream youtube videos without problems but sometime even loading an image hosted on imgur.com seems like using dial-up. Downloading files from my server in Europe is the most annoying problem, it will eventually get to somewhat decent speeds but if I'm lucky if it can only get half of what I used to get with mweb and very unstable.

Please explain?

CW has a DynDNS service of their own. Mine was configured a few weeks back, and I've just hopped onto support to get an updated address in line with the new accounts issued last week. Works really well. Obviously, some care needs to be taken with which ports are forwarded by your router, and the services you will be connecting to remotely need to have authentication enabled by default (at least that's the way I've set it up).

Particularly handy for the services that have web interfaces (Sick Beard, Transmission, CouchPotato, SABnzbd, etc.). Until now, I've been using the free account that comes with D-Link routers, but I'm not going to be on D-Link much longer, so it's great that CW offers a (much better) alternative.

CW, got some results for YouTube for you (after our discussion yesterday).
Video is 1080p, unable to get up to 720p even. I displayed the stats in the corner, and this is what it shows:
88rxnX0.png
(I took the vid out of fullscreen to take the screenshot quickly).

Last night (after midnight) it maintained about 7.5mbps, now it's struggling to get 3.5mbps (and even on that speed is unable to maintain 720p)

I know about the packet loss issue we're investigating, but at the same time as the vid I ran tests and during the time of the video test, there was no packet loss or high latencies on the exchange. TelkomZA is aware of the exchange issue we had yesterday though, and will hopefully look into that.

(What's interesting is that the video tried to jump to 7.5mbps right at the beginning - you can see the spike - but afterwards came back down to around 3.5mbps and stayed there)

During the day I tried to watch some tutorial vids on Office.com as well, and it kept on buffering, jumping between 480p and 720p, and even to 360p every now and then.

EDIT2: Tried the same video 5 minutes later, got these results: dcTpbRw.png

Higher than before (why?), and then came back down (again, why?).

EDIT3: And the same behaviour on another video: vKnmSEi.png. Starts high, then tapers off and gets lower as time goes on.

What's interesting to note here is the 3rd hop on the CW account. There seems to be packet loss there, which isn't replicated on the AH account. I am a little concerned with the "max" latencies on the exchange though, and will follow that part up with TelkomZA separately.

exactly what i'm experiencing, downloading from my server in Europe, i'm lucky to get around 15KB/s on a 4mbps line. If I use a download manager with multiple threads, i can get it up to 200KB/s, half of what I should be getting.

There's been a problem with single thread HTTP downloads since I joined last month, but I didn't really worry about that too much as using a download manager usually solved that. Since yesterday though, that isn't getting full speeds anymore either. have opened a ticket and send the requested reports, awaiting feedback now.

Currently right now i'm downloading a video from YouTube at 25KB/s.. these used to run at full speed until a few days ago. Don't think its my side as Afrihost account is fine, full line speed at all times.

This sort of thing needs to go to support to deal with. Always best to talk to support about support related issues.

Also to youtube. Thought you might want results from different users on CW with 4mbps accounts.

Hi,

So far very happy and things running good, just want to get some opinions:

  • Recommended router to use, is there "Better" ones?
  • CW, you mention using "our DNS", could Unotelly DNS cause issues?
  • Default router settings fine or is there some tweaks that can help?

I'm no networking guru so just want to make sure I'm getting the best out of my 4MB connection,

Thanks!
Dion
