I had a 17gig nzb fail on me too. Does this happen using another paid host?
I'm considering going back to using my old paid news host. I can't keep throughing away Tier 1 data like this :(

On the plus side torrents are flying along very nicely :D

Agree with you; currently throwing away chunks of Tier 1.

Used an xsusenet trial account on a small nzb and picked up no issues. Will test it again with a larger nzb with more articles.
Going to test 2 other free providers (have had success with them in the past), and then use other ISPs to eliminate potential line and exchange concerns. Will give feedback during the course of the weekend.

Anyone with NZB failures, please ensure that your client is not opening more than the concurrent connection limit in your logs and reduce if need be. And give it a retry.

I have my max connections set at 13, I think. Am I above the allowed amount?
Can't remember where I read that it's 13 or is it 10? #OLDAGE

15, but some clients keep connections open for a bit, so our test line for nzb uses 13 as well, but then again we hardly download on there, and when we do its to test one file at a time. NZBs get rather tough to diagnose as failures could be for a plethora of reasons and we don't support your config of your NZB clients directly. That part is up to you. It's just not really feasible right now to do so, but we will create some email campaign info for customers regarding the best setups and so on.

+1, very valid point.

Unfortunately mine was set at 4 connections, which is way below the max connection limit.

Currently trying on 2 connections, but seeing no difference.

You can set the connection limit up there - no problems. You occasionally see problems with the nntp client keeping sessions open which result in "too many connections" errors, but with your settings you are highly unlikely to ever come up against this issue.

Also on sabnzb, got 2 connections setup to different ports (Both SSL), one as a backup, both on 10 connections,

Always running 400KB/s+ on my 4Mb, "touch-wood" no broken downloads yet..

This is what I've got currently:
eunews.blocknews.net: timed out
europe.newsdemon.com: timed out
news.tweaknews.eu: timed out
news.crystalweb.co.za: timed out
EDIT: Restart fixed this.

Also had all my nntp downloads fail this morning... a retry does not fix them :(

20GB's I'll have to redownload - why does this happen, and is it only when using your newservers?

EDIT:
Disabled your server, redownloading the three that failed last night, see what happens - speed is ok - between 600-800, fluctuates a lot thought.

I am VERY disappointed with Crystal Web's news server. In the 2 days after I have signed up for a News Server only account I have tried 4 download and only 1 was successful. I never had issues like that @ Mweb. Then the support tells me :

our news server access is by every measured standard a superb service in terms of retention times, throughput availability and so on

I get the 3 failed ones from another backup server I have. It is a very slow server but I at least got what I wanted.

So from my experience I advise to stay away form Crystal Web's News server service.

just got my 20Mbs activated again, setup 2x Bolt-On accounts to my download box, Crystal Capped to tier 1, Vox Fatpipe to tier 2 and now streaming Twitch is butter smooth when downloading :D

In English ? Sorry - trying to make sense of this !

Ok been doing NNTP tests. Decided to try 2 of the latest Supernatural episodes, as they are quite populer. Nothing on my end has failed to this date. Everything goes via port 119.

Seems pretty good to me, especially for a FREE service

Using PfSense to dial into both 10Mbs accounts and split traffic between them so I get around 17Mbs throughput

You guys do realise you've signed up for an ISP, not a news server?
The past few pages have just been people complaining about the news server.

if the ISP provides a news server that need attention, then I don't see the problem with it. While constant nagging doesn't help, honest criticism does.

So like going to the Spur and complaining about the quality of the fish you just ordered?

It is part of the package they provide, whether you pay for it or not. If it is not working 100% it needs to be fixed.
