CW has up to 17/18 Dec to fix the network. If not, I, unfortunately, have to move on. I am not paying another month for an account that does not work like advertised.

also thinking that moving on is my only option. I had a case where i was cut-off abrubtly after about 220GB this month - eg no shaping nothing - just no internet at all. A new account was then provisioned, with shaping immediately applied, which i considered fair.
until i monitored the line for 3 days, and noticed that the unshape between 12pm and 7am is not happening - eg still getting max 14KB/s on a 4Mb line *bleh* Trying to get assistance from support the last 3 days, but still not cleared up. Ended up buying a webafrica capped account, and enjoying the unshaped hours on special for December.

but yes - if issues continues, i will rather choose a more stable ISP ( Telkom/mweb/Afrihost etc) for the next few months until the mood in this thread improves.

But the account is not supposed to be unshaped after 12am unless you are still within your allocation.

AFAIK if you're allocated 100GB's, then that 100GB's is unshaped. After that, "large" downloads are shaped, after midnight, shaping is lifted ie: unshaped.

going into silly season I can't see much changing between now and the new year, think I'll cancel next week

yes that is how i understood it as well thus :
NNTP will get full speed every day until 100GB is reached, after which it is slowed down. Come 11:59PM, shaping is released giving full speed back (thus forcing you to schedule your downloads - watching an episode a day later wont kill me). after 7am it is back to shaped traffic.

problem is, my NNTP doesn't seem to be released at the specified time :(

Im on a capped account and NNTP runs between 1 and 4m on my 10m line. Only on weekends does it seem to run at line speed. Rest of the time it's always shaped.

My understanding is it has nothing to do with time of day. The 1st 100/200 gigs are unshaped and thereafter you are shaped. They did however appeal to users to do downloads between midnight and 6.

Spot on. The midnight to 6 "off peak" downloading keeps the ISP from buying more premium time bandwith than needed, which costs them more.

Well, 1. usage counter is still not reset.
2. No unshaped data for December as promised middle last month, because all downloads, NNTP included, start off at around 200KB/s and quickly drops to between 30-50KB/s.
3. Support also has no idea when management will inform them or customers.

?????

***NEED TECH SUPPORT***

Ok, so now it's my turn to complain. Got a phonecall earlier today, internet is down. Just got home from a long day at work, to have to deal with this cr@p now. CW account connected, but nothing is happening. Pings fail. Tracert cannot even get a response from 2nd hop. Some IP addresses show up (weird).

I decide to dust off one of those trial accounts that I haven't had to touch in months. Hey presto, everything works again! Go to talk to tech support on CW website but nope.jpg

Need some looking in to my account please, something is horribly borked.

Edit: Thanks for the assist Paul :) Working fantastically again :)

Had that issue the other day, if you can log into the customer portal use the temp unlock button. When I had that issue that worked. So worth a try...

What does the temp unlock button do?

From what I understand when our accounts authenticate, it locks to the exchange port or configuration or some such. So if Telkom makes changes (as they have been with their upgrades), you can have a problem where your account doesn't authenticate, because the system thinks someone is attempting to misuse your account (like someone else trying to use it from another line). The temp unlock then releases those locks so you can then authenticate again from the new port/exchange config/etc. Thats at least how i understand it. May not be technically accurate, but hopefully explains the issue/concept/functionality.

I thought it was to unlock from your telephone number so that you could use your account on another telephone number /line, if you wanted to.

Same thing really since your telephone number is tied to the port / exchange infrastructure. I had an issue where my ports were changed due to issues, but my number stayed the same, and I had to get my account unlocked.
