will start the process on Monday. Just hate dealing with telkom. They always seem to f**k up one's month...
You don't have to deal with Telkom. Just email the other ISP and they should transfer it back to Telkom. Then email CW and they will transfer it from Telkom to CW.

You don't have to deal with telkom, just ask your current provider that's managing your line to move it back to telkom, then let CW know after it's done.

SNAP! - lol - I should have read the whole thread before I posted :p

I don't recommend moving a line. This is the reason:
Dealing with Telkom support is very trying. It can ages just to reach them and support tickets are often mishandled - maybe even summarily closed. If we delegate that rough job to a company, they just don't have the time or inclination to follow up or follow through with the deadbeats at telkom. So your best line manager is yourself via telkom.

utter nonsense

I need to buy a new modem today. Where can I go to buy a good modem. Looking for either an ASUS or Billion modem. I'm done with TP Links. They too unreliable for me.

Does anyone know a shop I can go to that stocks good modems?

Lol why the Jesus modem?

I prefer the modem/router combos. Can I just walk into takealot and buy a modem from them?

I'm thinking of buying the TP-Link Archer D7, but now you've got me worried about TP-Link. I've had problems with a Netgear router, and my current router which is a Linksys/Cisco router has the worst user interface of any hi-tech device I have ever used. I sometimes have to wait 5 minutes to switch ISPs.

Sorry didn't mean to scare you. Some people do have good experiences with TP Link. Unfortunately I can't say the same. I need something more solid and reliable and I need it today.

unreliable in what way? I've had some great solid performance from my tp-links by installing dd-wrt (I'm talking routers and modem routers here, not modems per se).

Yeah, my TP Links have all been modem/router combo's so cannot install 3rd party firmware. My current TP Link TD-W8960N is giving me problems. Connection isn't stable. CW support believe that my modem could be the culprit causing packet loss, I tend to believe them on this. My other TP Link W8980 is a dud. Continuously dropping sync every few minutes. Cannot get a stable connection. It's now sitting in a box collecting dust.

Lol, no problem, but let me give you some advice. I was in the same situation. My Netgear router had packed up and I urgently needed a new ADSL router. I checked the local stores because I also wanted it that day. I found that Dion Wired stocked the Linksys/Cisco X3500 router and I thought how wrong can I go with Cisco. Big mistake. :)

Haha that sucks. Yeah no, I won't be buying that :)

If both routers are giving problems, then maybe the problem is your line?

No, if it was my line then this problem would have existed from the beginning. It's only recently started. I think my modem is on its way out.

I have checked with telkom. They done a port reset and everything looks good on their side.

I have the archer D7 and I have no issues.

Only "issue" is, I should have got the W8980 as that has blinking lights for the lan ports etc, the D7 doesn't.

EDIT: Also, the D7 doesn't have key holes at the back to mount in to a wall, it just sits flat on a desk or something.

I'm wondering if I should buy "The Jesus Modem" and attach the W8980 to it as a router to see how it behaves.

You have probably been using cheap TP-Links? I use them for most clients as they are rather good value for money and easy to set up. You need to buy a decent one though.

This one is great and I have used if for a multitude of people and no one has complained about it: http://www.dbg.co.za/product_info.php?cPath=1_55_57&products_id=383. It has a better ADSL chipset than the cheaper TP-Link models.

Or if you still don't wan't TP-Link, I have been using this at home since January 2012 and it has always "just worked". It may be a little more complicated interface-wise, but you can configure a lot more than many cheap routers if you know what you're doing. Wireless signal is also pretty good, routers with supposedly better WiFi don't send their signal as far in my experience :D

Thanks for the advice. I have decided to try the Dlink DSL2500u. I have ordered it from takealot, delivery should be today. I will use this as the modem and then connect the TP Link W8980 as the router.

I'm not sure how to configure the two to work together though. Anyone can explain?

While we are on the topic of routers, are there any ADSL routers that you can store multiple ISPs in memory and just select the one that you want? CW is going to be offering 2 service providers, so this would be useful for all CW users.
