I've been experiencing some "mini_timeouts" this morning. They last 3 - 5 minutes.
My router does not lose sync, but I don't have internet access during the timeouts.

Not sure if it is CW, Telkom or my setup.
Have anyone else experienced this?

Probably not your setup unless you changed something. Three culprits spring to mind: Telkom work on your exchange, DNS error, or loadshedding. Is throughput dead entirely?

FYI, no other reports of this yet, so not a network-wide issue.

Congratulations! Based on my month's experience so far, well deserved.

Now for a serious question: Any threat of you guys running into IPC shortage problems like Afrihost have due to their previous success and people moving to them in droves? Are you better prepared for such an eventuality? I really am not in the mood for a Deja Vu.

Agreed. We're actively working on these forecasts and I manage this myself each day. Looing fine so far. Large volume of new sign ups today, but still not forecasting any connectivity risk issues. We're pretty dynamic with how this works. We don't need to order multi-Gbps at a time which is where the delays often arise.

I can foresee people signing up and bitching about their downloads being shaped in business hours when they did not read the FAQs...

I hope not. Each page has a link and specifically asks to read them before signing up, and we are very transparent about this in the FAQ to try to prevent this. It's important that customers opt for the most appropriate account for their needs, in our eyes.

Crystal Web - are you guys shaping b/w during business hours to your newserver? Or is the shaping limited to international data?

Pretty sure the news server is international.

Also, the expensive part is IPC, not international transit...

In a perfect world you can hope for this. Not in this reality however :D

I can see the questions already starting up :D

I signed up because I was in a hurry to leave the other one, and my downloads were quite slow. I asked on live chat why it was, and I was told about shaping, and the FAQ link was sent to me.

That's all we could ask, really.

Depends on your product you opt for, but as a rule, yes we shape NNTP (our news server and others) in business hours, absolutely. IF business customers are demanding the data and we need to shape dynamically (this is on premium home uncapped). The only product we offer that is unshaped entirely is our premium business capped data.

Thx Shuan. Yes throughput is totally dead afik. I have several tabs open as a default in Chrome and they just show a spinning nine circle in the tab when it happens.

It is not too serious at this stage. When the line is active it runs pretty well. I just switched on the PS4 and there was a firmware update that downloaded in good time.

For now, I will then assume that is Telkom.

Hi guys. An FYI. Seeing as we have increased interest and signups, I have increased capacity by a substantial amount on our network effective today so that you are not affected at all (we did forecast this happening and the potential impact it may have had). However I should ask that as usual, everyone just be responsible. Being responsible means not leaving downloads on all day every day on uncapped. Help us, help you, and we'll always reward you by reinvesting into our network. :)

I've been so well conditioned that I feel bad downloading anything during any hours other than off peak. Rest of the time it's only steaming. And congrats BTW, all out voting came to the right conclusion. :D

No, go for it. We often have some spare daytime capacity for downloads on premium uncapped. We just prefer that the very big downloads are scheduled instead. :)
