Well I was told to wait till after 12... Poof after 12 nothing magically happened. Lots of streaming apparently.

Stephan, to quote my chat from last night:
(08:15:59 PM) Private Support: Definitely everything is fine, i have checked it and there is nothing off, its the network that is heavily contended at the moment

How can we find out what the contention is at a point in time?

On another note (not a complaint just an observation), the mails with details from the support chats are giving time in UTC and is this showing the time of the chat as 8:15 PM while it in actual fact occurred at 10:15 PM.

Unfortunately they don't have a real time measure we can check. Or something that could indicate how each account type is effected in real time.

That being said I never needed one. Thankfully :)

I dunno about the support moans .... I've probably never had support like I had just now from anyone in the past. Makes signing up really worthwhile :)

moreover what is actually pertinent here is that real time information is actually too late - indicator information would be more valuable but adds new problems.

you really need to think of it in terms of a road network - if every car in Gauteng is on the highway ring the Western bypass will clog up and each of the interchanges will become an accident scene.

Now we monitoring traffic can tell you that currently there are a lot of cars on the road but not whether more cars are coming onto the road or whether the cars on the road are clearing off. We've announced when there is visibly open capacity but almost immediately the behavior shift leads to far too high a spike.

Ultimately however for the network to perform well and to perform "cheaply" (to be affordable for end consumers - otherwise you are looking at the tens of thousands range) a whole lot of planning and monitoring and so on is taking place.

Oh I have no qualms at all with my service level currently.

Also are you a road junkie? Your road analogies for network management is pretty good :D

Now I'm just waiting patiently for you folks to get some fiber offering online please. I have fiber access and I'll be damned if I go to another provider.

actually I don't drive at all - when I am in Joburg one of the companies drivers have to take me to and from places (the one named Shaun can be a bit testy when I call for a driver) and I hate being in a car or bus. Actually with regard to a bus: hate is not a strong enough word. I love planes and trains and don't get me started on helicopters.
I do however find road and railway networks fascinating. I confused the nursery school when we were told to draw something interesting and I drew roads.

As for fibre access - drop me a PM

could you hop onto support to get some diagnostics

Sat yesterday with support trying to coax more than 300kbps from my account , will chat to support guys again when they get back to me about figuring out my smtp issues.
