I have a hard time believing that. Especially not when starting in a different location. And without the assisted GPS feature (using data to speed up the location finding). No device I've ever used has been that fast...not even a dedicated GPS device.

Most take between 30 seconds to a minute to locate you at a new location (and much worse if you're in an entirely different continent to before XD)
My current phone does have assisted GPS, it has "GLONASS" too, I have no idea how that works tbh, all I know is that when I activate the GPS (meaning I enable it from the Android drop down menu) and load Google Maps it finds my current location instantly by the time Google Maps is loaded, which varies but is usually a couple of seconds. I have no reason to exaggerate about this, I hate this phone (it's a Samsung btw). :p

The GPS seems good. It did let me down a bit last weekend. I dont know why, but it just would not lock on properly even after restarting the phone. Used it again yesterday and it locked on in a few seconds and worked great.
Thanks for the info! Will definitely not be buying a new phone before the end of this month, so I have sometime to think about it.

Firmware update went through without any issues. Nice to see that Meizue pushes out updates and fixes. I wonder if we will get Android M

After firmware update Play store is not working? WTF. Keeps saying authentication required - retry. Data and other apps are working

Maybe it wok when leroad firmware. Try!

Going to try a phone reset just now. See if that restores Google services. If not, I have already downloaded the official ROM from the net, so will then do that tonight. The download finished late last night and the phone battery was very low anyway, so could not do it then. Urg ... this is a ball ache.

Sjoe! Dankie tog. Factory reset sorted it out. Working like a charm again. I was worried that Meizu by accident pushed the Chinese Firmware to me and therefore tells me to fck off when I want to use google services and tell me to have some fried noodles instead. :wtf: :p

Well, aint you just a little self satisfied little bitch right now taking pleasure in my misfortune :p

Of course I was. Luckily you managed to fix it but this is why you don't promote little Chinese brands with little to no support.
There are some Chinese (and custom) firmwares out there that really don't have permission to access the Play Store (unless that's been changed).

Well, the Meizu comes with a Chinese firmware version, and also a international version. The Chinese firmware dont have google play services, but you can install those manually if you want. We get the international one here that comes with google. Something must have just bombed out with the upgrade. Factory reset did the trick luckily :)
