Official Tri-Nations 2011 Thread

Lol, jip ABs without a WC, but tops 90% of the time.
Boks not so convincing throughout the year but looking good in WCs :p

People keep throwing this "AB without WC" rubbish around. When they win the World Cup and maintain consistency at the top of the IRB rankings, what will people say then? Sure it's funny to joke about it now, but when they win the WC people will have jack **** to joke about.

Well dal if that EVER happens i will concede they are best. In order to be the best you need to win the world cup bud.

We are the king of world cups, our first world cup back in the frame and we pomped them AB's :D. I am not willing to write us off until we do not make it which i know we will. The all blacks can go on about being the best in the world all they like but until they prove it in a world cup that consists of the best teams in the world i won't believe. Not my fault they cannot hack it at the highest level while we thrive :D. shows how good we are. We have that winning mentality when it really matters.

Lambie in frame for doubtful Steyn

However Patrick Lambie was one of three players added to the squad before the Boks flew out of Durban for the Eastern Cape city, where their opponents, the All Blacks, were reportedly given a rousing welcome on their arrival on Sunday. Port Elizabeth is considered more of a stronghold of local All Black fans than Cape Town is.

:wtf:

Lol, relax buddy. I am sure the ABs will win this year... frankly they should have won it twice imo in the last two WCs.

But the rubbish, as you like to call it, comes down to the simple fact of what people remember. Go ask anyone who was the top rated country with the best winning percentage and highest try tally in 1995.....
Then go ask them what rugby moment they remember best.

It is all about the big moments.

By far not the worste cover for Steyn. :D

And PE is a bigger AB supporter stronghold then CPT?!

Some were stuffed up but I wouldn't want to be trying to catch in that wind. He is too small, gets no where and can't kick.

Well he did come on when it was raining, he can tackle very well though for such small dude. Why are we picking on aplon when it seems most of our team had butter fingers? we chucked away 3-4 tries because we not handle the ball well. What about the beast not laying off the pass for an easy try?

While I agree with your comments, I didn't notice the Aussies dropping the ball all over the place. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the fullback to be able to field the high ball.

What almost made me kick my tv was that Danie Roussow moment where he held the ball in one hand, in the rain...only to knock it on.

Quoted from NZHERALD "James O'Connor kicked the goal and earlier the Justin Bieber look-alike created the game's solitary try which set the Wallabies on the way. His feint then pace confused the defenders enough to deliver Pat McCabe his first try for the Wallabies."

hahahaha :D

the boks just sucked on saturday. we are at least 2 levels behind the all blacks and 1 level behind the aussies. butch is not a flyhalf and steyn not a fullback. leave people in their positions and not play players out of position. backline should be

9 - hougaard
10 - morne
11 - habana
12 - de villiers
13 - fourie
14 - pietersen
15 - aplon

don't fak with the backline. subs should be juan de jongh, eberson and grant

forwards pick themselves

8 - juan smith
7 - shalk burger
6 - brussouw
5 - matfield
4 - bakkies
3 - du plessis
2 - du plessis
1 - beast

What our back line showed on Saturday was an inability to finish and a lack of something extraordinary on attack. For me that's why Aplon has to play. Frans Steyn at 110kg missed more tackles and was out of position a lot more often than the 74kg Aplon!! Yes he didn't catch the high kicks cleanly in the swirling wind and driving rain but at least he was under the flipping ball!!! Some lament Aplon's inability to kick!! I think we have too many players that kick only too well. Every time we kept the ball in hand and went wide we looked threatening. Then in the 2nd half we reverted back to the kicking game and we all know how that ended.

As for the AB's choking on the big stage, they've gone into just about every world cup as favourites and won 1 and that was AT HOME in 1987. Had SA been competing in that world cup there is a good chance the AB's may not have won!!! Bear in mind the Boks won 3/4 against the Cavaliers in 1986. That was a great Bok side!!!

You got to question Frans Steyn's fitness levels!!! I mean he strained a hamstring chasing the Gary Owen!!! Poor form if you ask me...

He's certainly bigger than he was before...
Yeah he is HUGE!!! Which is not a bad thing. We need monsters like him in our backline. It also helps to know you got someone who can kick drop goals and penalties from well within his own half!!

I would love to see him playing in SA again from next season. I'm not sure he grown as a player playing in France...

I can sort of forgive Jaque Fourie his 3 fumbles - he can claim to be rusty. Roussouw has no excuse, rain or not.

I am not complaining about Aplon's drops. He is too small. He doesn't tackle either - go and rewatch the game he played against Australia in Sydney and you see him diving at nothing.

Let's go back a few years. When James Small and Pieter Hendriks were wings (and occasionally Chester Williams). Those guys worked like demons to hit the break down. When we moved to smaller wings like Breyton Paulse we had all sorts of crap to the point that Percy Montgomery looked like a turnstile. Being the last line of defence is quite different if you know that help is coming. It ain't pretty when you're only little and the guys who'll get there first aren't much bigger.

Look at Saturday's game - the guys who made any ground were the Beast, Spies and Bismarck (and Bakkies). And they did it by running straight and over the opposition. And this is the reason why Danie Roussouw can give up playing rugby. He runs sideways and gets nailed everytime - oh, and he can't hold a ball.

South Africa are crap at the break down - it looks more like a badly performed version of 'YMCA' than a game of rugby. Instead of arms in the air they should go get the ball. And they should play the ref. The refs aren't blowing lazy runners - so get lazy. If some fat aussie is lurking around the ruck, clean him out by hitting him in the kidneys. Stuff trying to hold the player up - how often (if ever) have you seen a trunover come from this. Dump the sucker on the ground.

Really - I could understand some mistakes but how we lost?

And if you want a new fullback - rather look at Denilla (?) if he isn't injured than some small nippy guy. World Cups are won on having a solid defence.

Agree - if he wanted to go overseas we should have arranged a trip to New Zealand.

I disagree. The commentators even mentioned his good defensive work when he made 2 tackles within 10 seconds, one on Beale and I didn't see the 2nd one. He is often being lauded for his big heart on defense so I'm sorry I don't endorse your he doesn't tackle sentiment..

Hennie Denilla, the vanilla gorilla!! Good at currie cup level but too slow at international level. Even Super 15 most of the time Riaan Viljoen was the preferred choice at 15...
