Official Tri-Nations 2011 Thread

The boks cant score tries and I believe that that will cost them the cup. Did anyone see how naar bismarck look when he was taken off
Hell yeah and good for him, too. He was just starting to get stuck into the AB's and the game was starting to open up, which suits him 100%. Shows he is HUNGRY!!!

come on man that tackle wasnt bad at all.

Untrue - the law is simple. Legs over perpendicular and impact point below chest is a tip tackle. Bad or not, consequence or not, similar reckless conduct can end careers and lives so it should have (at least) been a penalty. Possible card.

My concern is that we looked competitive against a second sting AB side. That's not good. I would have expected us to dominate the game. Their fly half made a whole chunk of mistakes giving us possession again and again and I didn't see us break the line once. We kicked up an unders and chased them well but we didn't get any go forward ball. Even our rolling malls didn't look too great. I am very worried about us in the WC.

The All Blacks are looking fragile as well. Two of their key players are out and suddenly they look really ragged. I agree that we aren't where we should be and I'm not confident that we can take the cup either but after those two away games in the Tri Nations it is good to see a side that is not hopelessly outclassed. Let's enjoy the victory and hope that the team can work out a few decent attacking strategies and get their defense and fitness sorted over the next few weeks in training.

I love that steal in about the 67th minute close to our tryline where Skinstad says Brussouw made the most amazing steal he has seen in his life - something about reaching into the tiniest hole. The reason it was amazing is because Habana actually stole the ball cleanly and squeezed it out to Brussouw. lol Habana had massive defensive game.

Yeah Habana did a very good job today. There was also another ball that he stole that got attributed to someone else iirc. Some of the players really impressed me. Russouw was a waste of space like always. Glad he wasn't on the field for too long :/

Totally agree!

An interesting question that came up on another forum is: is a tmo allowed to make hinting comments after and outside of whatever info the ref has specifically asked him for in order to change the decision?he decision?
The ref didn't specify what exactly he wanted to know regarding the try so I think it was within the scope of the TMO's right to ask if he wanted to know if there was anything before the line or just after it. Normally referee's will say what aspect they want to have the TMO look at ie. grounding of the ball etc

Now we are heroes, we nail a b nz team hahaha. shocking stuff.

Do we know how to score a try? do we know what running rugby is? we know pick up crash get nowhere. Shocking stuff, nice to win but absolutely fking shocking :(

Should have nailed them 50-0 if we didn't fking crash the god damn ball the whole time. What happened to spreading? do we know that you can spread the ball and run? Not impressed at all.

one of the worst performances i have seen in this tri nations.

Yeah exactly. The way the ref asked, he wasn't questioning the grounding, but what happened before. The TMO just answered the question in a different way to how they normally answer - by saying the grounding was good (which wasn't actually asked) and then kinda making it sound like he was acting outside the rules by asking if the ref wanted some 'extra' info that he saw in the replay, but he was actually just confirming the ref's question (which was clear to the rest of us).

You seriously confuse me. You praise our team when we are losing but slate our team when we win? That All Blacks side had plenty of quality. That wasn't like our B Side which had no experience together and were all out of their depth. The only issue we need to sort out is those line breaks. Scoring tries is lovely, but I prefer our team to win rather than try score tries.

It's all about the "movement" and that try included a forward pass during. He never hinted, he stated fact. The ref made the decision.

How many tries did we score our last 2 world cup finals?
How many tries did the All Blacks score in the last 5 World Cup finals?

We play winning rugby.

I agree i guess i was just pissed we never thumped a rubbish all black team :(

Good point. It may not be pretty but is it effective.

Anyway, Wales in exactly 3 weeks time, then Samoa, Fiji and Namibia. Ireland in the quarters, a game we would be expected to win, then NZ in the semi's and anything can happen. The ball isn't round... :p

Boks have made progress from the B team at the beginning of the Tri-Nations to the almost full strength side that won yesterday. Rassie and co have another 3 weeks to tune the machine and 4 pool games for refining and tweaking. I think we have a 80% chance of progressing the semi's and a 40% of knocking NZ over in the semi's.

Normally I would say Boks won't be beaten once in the final but if we overcome NZ in the semi's I think we will be a broken side in the final, 30% chance of taking it against either OZ or 60% chance if it's England...

Then again OZ lack depth so they lose 4 or 5 1st team players getting to the final they may be susceptible...

Look there many ways to cut and dice it but one thing is a certainty we need to back the Boks 1000%!!!!

I agree 100%.

The ease with which the AB's made ground with ball in hand should be a massive concern for any bok supporter. It simply isn't good enough to rely on scrambling defence and 50:50 calls by the officials to win games. We did not even get a sniff at the try line and that is a big problem. We had zero go-forward ball in the backs. Zero. Jean De Villiers shouldn't be there. He's a selfish, moronic player who's only trick (the intercept) has long been sussed out by all opponents.

That said, it was a very important win for the boks because it shows that there is still pride and self belief in the team. It reminds me a lot of the 1995 team and I have faith that if they don't get cocky they will be able to go the whole way.

SBW had a solid game, but he's nowhere near Ma'a Nonu right now. Nonu's impact on the game is massive. Was seriously impressed with Habana's work rate and overall impact - defensively he's coming to the party. Bismarck and Brussouw were awesome, was a sad moment when Bismarck was sub'd. Morne held his own, but remember, this game was on home soil where he always plays well - overseas he crumbles somewhat. And remember, he was up against Slade (not one of the top 5 flyhalfs) in the world, who still managed to run around him a few times... Jacque Fourie also did well in defense I thought, and it seems our seasonsed centre pairing have become a defensive pair! Sad to note that the backline has no confidence in themselves, and rarely did we see the ball distributed throughout let alone creatively. All in all, I'd say there were more positives than negatives that came from the game.
