Only able to access Cell C website (data services not enabled)

and I get a time-out when I try *101#.

I also had timeouts on that, but it was because my modem wasn't properly detected. Had to try different USB ports and then sometimes coming back to a previous port then suddenly it detects and works fine. In MDMA i noticed if it didn't give the tower info it wasn't properly detecting the modem and USSD stuff would timeout.

It seems to detect my modem fine (though every time I swap it to a different port it reinstalls the drivers again for a different COM) and it connects with HSPA+ every time, but otherwise I've got no access at all.

Grrrrrrrrr.

Cell C fiddled with some settings on their side and I'm good to go :D

Thanks for the help, dudes.

New speedstick - Only able to access cellc.co.za?

Hey guys, so ive had my stick activated by the bra at the Cell-C shop down at the mall, its a contract 60GB deal. How long does it take to activate as I can only access the Cell C site? Is there another bra I should phone?

Try disconnecting and reconnecting, also try checking your bundle balance and see what the response is; SMS 'bal' to 14302 as you're on contract (it's *101# if you're on pre-paid).

I helped a friend last week and it took a few attempts before it started working.

I had the same problem. A buddy told me to stick the sim in a phone and attempt to make a call, then stick it back into the modem.
It worked. Havent had any problems since.

Also had the same issue, I unplugged the modem and plugged it back in and it installed a com port. It is now working fine. Using windows 7.

Weird problem trying to connect to Cell C on my laptop, via my cellphone...

Hi all,

If anybody can assist here, I would be eternally grateful.
I am in the IT support game, so I know most of the basic troubleshooting steps in this scenario.

This problem has me stumped however:

- I connected my Nokia N97 (Cell C) to my laptop via bluetooth a few weeks ago, and was able to use it to connect to the internet fine at the time.
- All of a sudden, in recent days, the phone connects, but I cannot browse any websites at all, cannot download email etc. Windows 7 indicates that the connection has "Internet Access", even though I cannot surf the web.

- Weird bit 1: I can ping and get replies from sites e.g. www.google.co.za, but if I paste that IP into my browser, I still cannot browse (so it can't be a DNS problem).

- Weird bit 2: I can still use my phone to connect to the net and surf on my home desktop PC.

- Weird bit 3: The problem persists if I connect the phone via USB instead of Bluetooth.

- Weird bit 4: I can connect to the net fine using a Samsung S7350 (Vodacom) using Bluetooth.

- Weird bit 5: I did a hard reset on my N97 in the hope that this might fix the issue. It did not.

- Weird bit 6: If I use Joikuspot to set my N97 as a wireless hotspot, I get the same problem.

- Weird bit 7: I can surf the net on the phone directly without any problems.

- Weird bit 8: If I put the SIM into a Nokia N80 and try connect using that phone, the problem persists (so it can't be the phone at fault).

- Weird bit 9: The Windows 7 built-in network diagnostic (which is usually quite helpful), finds no problems at all, yet Windows 7 insists that I am connected to the internet.

Is there any possible issue with Cell C that can be causing this?

The only other problem that I can think of, is that somehow Windows 7 has a problem with one of the Nokia drivers that is loaded...?
I have updated all the bluetooth drivers and loaded the latest version of Nokia PC Suite (I can't handle Ovi Suite...:).

Man this is grey hair material...!!
Thanks in advance guys and gals...

Sounds like you have incorrect proxy settings in your browser. Maybe try a different browser if you have.

Proxy:

No proxy configured at all - tried IE and Chrome so far...

Thx!

Oh my frikkin heavens... - @ Tun@... THAT WORKED!!
Holy mac - how in the name of Mordor did that ever happen?

Quite honestly I have never heard of that setting before, and the symptoms are so random that it had me seriously grumpy!!!

Thank you so much guys - that's gonna get a mention at some point on my blog... :)

Yay I can surf again!!!

Cool - It doesn't make sense why you could surf on the Samsung but not the Nokia tho - Would be of interest to see if the Nokia software is changing it.
So far all we know is there's a program called TCP Optimiser that changes it.

Hang on a sec... I use that software fairly often, to set MTU's and optimise LAN connections...
Your'e saying that TCP Optimizer enables that setting? Gonna think twice about using it in future...!

Hugely odd that it killed my N97 connection but not the Samsung connection...

Thanks again - you saved me much grumpiness... :)

I bought the black cell c speedstick for R2999.00 a week ago and can still only connect to the cell c website despite speaking to 5 different technicians. There is no way to speak to the same person when you phone back. Each one says they have done something try again!!Their help line 140 is atrocious and each time you have to listen to a host of irrelevant options. Luckily I discovered that if you press 9 even though it is not one of the options you get put through to the help desk who in turn 5 minutes later put you through to technical. I have now got to the point where someone is trying to phone me back but I still have no resolution. I asked if there is somewher I can take my laptop and speedstick for them to fix it, but alas there is no such facility.

Absolutely amazing. I have no idea what this issue is about but it was miraculous fix for me too!!!
"netsh int tcp set global ecncapability=disabled"
at the command prompt!!!!

I had the exact same issue with TCP optimizer and disabled ECN capability by typing "netsh int tcp set global ecncapability=disabled" at the command prompt---fixed it immediately!! Thanks!!
