well, i'd like to give some positive feedback. today i woke up and checked my usage meter tool my torrents were doing an average of 200kb per second last night with a peak of 400kb per second. This is way more then i was getting on my mweb 10mb account.

on speed tests im getting about 6mb local and 1-2mb international which is OK.

My experience on Openweb during the daytime has been steadily going downhill over the last few months and I'm running out of ideas. I was willing to put it down to SEACOM last month but that's been sorted now (right?) and my connection is still terrible. During the day I have to use GMail in basic mode because standard takes ages to load and gives errors because things time out.

I use a command line app to download youtube videos, and even that times out just trying to load the page the video is on - never mind the video itself.

Code:
[download] Downloading video #1 of 2
[youtube] Setting language
[youtube] KaOC9danxNo: Downloading video webpage
ERROR: unable to download video webpage: timed out

I used to be able to play a bit of Guild Wars 2 during the day. Now I can't even log in, or lag so badly that I time out within a few minutes.

I've opened a case, #GVD-243-10591, and all credit to Leon, he's been extremely responsive and helpful, but MrBeep, if you could take a look I'd be really grateful.

Thanks

Can any World of Warcraft-playing OpenWebbers out there do a quick latency comparison check for me? For the last 30 minutes I've getting very erratic pings between 250ms and 900ms. Both home & world are jumping up and down (I'm on Twilight's Hammer). A ping test in command prompt to the server IP (80.239.179.31) shows a normal ping (205ms). All speedtests and other tests are showing good latencies though. It's only in-game that the latency is borked. Weird! I'm on 10mb Gamer King account (Durban), if anyone cares.

Thanks in advance!

Update: Seems to have normalized a bit (247/232)

Is there any reason why accessing the iTunes store during the day is near impossible? Can anyone else test and confirm if they experiencing the same problem? I'm on 10MB Uncapped Orange. Switching to my Afrihost account works immediately. Never had this issue on 4Mb Gold.

Yeah, it seems seems that Openweb sux sweaty camel b@lls during the day...

And it ain't Telkom this time.

We will need to start hearing some constructive feedback soon about what is amiss in Openweb land or at least when things will get better with some reasonable timelines attached.

This really seems to me to be a capacity issue that is facing us - I don't feel like going through that whole process of denial before things are eventually addressed.

I like Openweb, I want it fixed, soon.

Open cards.

When I left for work this morning at 06h30, I had a file downloading that had 1999MB left to download. I just checked it now and it's still got 727MB left to go. Currently downloading at a blistering 3 kB/s...on a 2Mb line!!! I'm OK with the idea of shaping, but this is pathetic. I'm just hoping that it's a temporary issue that will resolve itself in a few days. I pray this isn't going to be the typical OpenWeb Gold experience going forward.

Wow. You'd be better of using smoke signals. Fortunately, it looks like the shaper has knocked off for the weekend. I'm now getting around 160kB/s.

Yeah looks like it. iTunes store now accessible. Why is it shaped?

Shaping is a part of life in SA, it's just not normally this bad. It should sort itself out soon once OpenWeb's(or IS's) techies strike the correct balance. I went through the same thing with MWeb when they upgraded some routers in London with a new traffic management system, took a couple weeks for the service to return to normal levels.
