You cant blame Openweb? Sure ok, but its called PR and telling us WTF is going on
South Africa’s biggest forum. Discuss, discover, and connect with thousands of members.
You can't really blame OW for this though, this is a seacom cable problem and things are a little dodgy for all isps at the moment.
What you gonna do, go to mweb? some users reported that their lines were completely dead.
Swapping around ISPs for a temporary issue is stupid - in a week from now OpenWeb will be flying again and then you're stuck on MWeb/Afrihost.
I'm waiting it out.
people have been experiencing this between 8 am and 5 pm daily for the last 40 days (pre Seacom issues).
what? this is news to me.
Only my usenet is slightly slower today... when I combine HTTP downloads in FDM I get full speed again. (mostly)
Maybe just go and read the other "ADSL Feedback" threads before you move though, because the grass isn't green anywhere at the moment.
My account is still running at full throttle![]()
I can confirm this 8am to 5pm weekday issue. I am on the gold UNSHAPED and uncapped and I have been having this issue too. This is the third different account they gave me and each time it works well for a couple of days and then the speeds degrade again.what? this is news to me.

If I would be slightly slower today, I would be ok with it (Seacom issues and all) but running at 1/20th of the speed is a huge problem for Youtube, HTTP downloads (not even trying P2P). It's a joke.....
Yeah same here, port reset didn't help, its definitely something with the shaping but they don't want to look into that.I can confirm this 8am to 5pm weekday issue. My Usenet is now back to 100% speeds
anyone else see a sudden speed boost?
My speed seems to be back to almost normal levels. It's clear that they are throttling traffic between 8 am and 5 pm for business users.... So it's not a Seacom issue.
I think you are right, BUT I think they might only be doing this because of the temporary seacom issues.
Usually I have 100% speeds any time and day of the week, and 90% on a bad day... I seriously think this is only temporary.
Also, I think you mean shaping, not throttling.
(Meaning, your Usenet might be slower, but your HHTP/etc is still fast)
OpenWeb haven't ever throttled anyone.
There will be stronger shaping dynamically applied whilst we run on alternate international routing during peak periods.
When capacity is available, like now, we will release shaping as much as possible. I am sure everyone is having a superb experience currently.
Jeez, you oukes are not making things easier. I cancelled Afrihost Business 2MB Uncapped to go to Openweb on their 2MB Silver Uncapped, and now everyone here complains of slow speeds. I dunno who to go with anymore !
LOL

MrBEEP, can you guys justify 10 kb/sec download rate on a Gold 2 MB Uncapped product between 8 am and 5 pm? Is that not a little extreme? I couldn't download today the whole day, couldn't steam video on my leave.... I would understand 70% shaping or something to that effect but not to the rate that was happening. Also, your tech support doesn't take calls? Or respond to clients? My first 2 weeks with OpenWeb and I am disappointed. I am a service manager in a large SA corporate and I really value good service.... Which seems to be lacking in this instance and any proactive communication.
Hi Zodiak
Kindly email [email protected] with your ticket number and I will check re: response times.
Most ISP's are in the same boat. Unfortunately it is not about justifying anything at this stage. It is about providing the best service overall, to the most amount of clients during the outage. This means downloads will see increased shaping during peak periods.
As we speak, you can catch up with your downloads.
Of course, all will restore to normal once Seacom is back up.
