OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread

So I have had nothing but problems with openweb gold 2mb uncapped during the day this week.

And today I was away from home and couldnt remote into my network as the internet was down the whole day xDSL not synchorized error according to the router when I got home. So I phoned telkom and they recreated the port. And it adsl line is back but still not connecting and the error is now incorrect username and password, restart, still nothing, re enter details, still same error.

Input my webafrica prepaid detail and connects straight away. Enter my mweb details connects straight away. Use the net for abit and all is well. I want to download something so I try putting my openweb account details back into the router and incorrect username and password once again. So I restart and then xdsl line not synchorized comes up again! Put the mweb details back in and connects straight away!

Looks like I am going back to mweb, what a headache these past days have been!

Everything is OK here at my side now. Just wondering why it is that between 6pm and about 9pm things go pear shaped w.r.t. latency. Perhaps IS or OpenWeb does maintenance then or something? You perhaps know Mr Beep? Otherwise I am still very happy overall with OpenWeb.

So now it looks like I have to wait until tomorrow for this to get sorted as their email/sms assist only lasts until 21h00. Whether I wanted to upgrade or get a new account, I still have not received new account details and now I am stuck until tomorrow morning.

MrBeep: Do you just pack up and leave then at 21h00, even if there are still unresolved tickets? This is a basic account issue and really doesn't need more than a few minutes of attention.

The actual Seacom cable is still down unfortunately, thus from time to time weirdness will creep in until the cable is fully restored.

Ditto here like Zambo001 for very bad latency (to WOW servers). Also from Western Cape (Cape Town Northern Suburbs). Something like 1600ms to 3000ms. Happend Monday at exactly this time and now again. Isn't congestion: to exchange is 150ms. Is there something wrong with IS network? Are they doing maintenance now? Something still wrong with Seacom?

The actual Seacom cable is still down unfortunately, thus from time to time weirdness will creep in until the cable is fully restored.

So SEACOM is up to no good again. Now is makes sense.

According to the upstream provider, Seacom the cable is down. However, they have implemented some backup links for clients to use. We believe it is these links causing strange latency etc from time to time.

What is this 'home' you speak of? Is it a new OS?
I guess we complainers don't understand how much effort you really put into your business. ;)

After ~7 days of great connection quality/speed - i just RDPed to my PC and see my downloads are going at 30kbps on my 2mbps Gold.

I do a Speedtest, and its very erratic (after a remote reboot of the router) - i.e. lots of spikes. Final reading was 1.1mbps. Downloads remain at 30kbps.

First and foremost - I am a heavy user. So, I expect to be shaped on a normal account - but Gold has always been nice to me until recently...

Now what's prompting me to reassess is that for less than Gold 2mb, I can get AH 4mb (if I move my line).

Do I log a ticket with support, or do I just cancel and try the grass on the other side?

Just an update, my Gold 2mb has improved drastically, so the issue was just temporary.

I've also given much thought as to whether to move, and have decided that OW Gold has always treated me well, and support from OW and Keoma is great, while AH is a big unknown to me - so I look forward to seeing what OW can offer me i.t.o. a bundle including line (and hopefully the 4mb option is a decent price :))
 
FYI - Torrent speeds were pretty good last night on 1meg Gold (Cape Town); logged on about 8:30
 
My 10mb Gamer King account is absolutely FLYING today, which is a pleasant surprise seeing as daytime shaping is supposed to be quite heavy on these accounts.. quiet network today MrBEEP? :)

HTTP international download - 650kBps

And this, ladies and gentlemen is one of the reasons why I will stick to OpenWeb.
 
Anybody else having issues loading vodacom.co.za? It resolves but then just loads and loads and stays on a blank screen.
 
Lol, I'm the opposite today. Gone from solid 4-5mb during office hours to 1-2mb (10mb uncapped).

1st 10 days have been orgasmic but today I'm stuck with a semi.... :p
