Browsing is completely unshaped.

If you have no downloads open during shaping periods (even torrent seeding) and still cannot browse, kindly raise a support ticket so that we can investigate: [email protected]

I'm afraid I disagree with your closing sentiment. Gold uncapped is loved by many, and indeed not a 'rip-off'.

I am tired of emailing your support from 10:00 this morning. I AM NOT DOWNLOADING OR TORRENTING ATM - I AM TRYING TO BROWSE. Maybe I should try to post a video.... Please explain to me how switching off my router for 30 minutes will help? When switching to my free Afrohost account I have NO problems browsing...

Perhaps that is a solution?

Anyone else have an opinion on this matter?

Whenever my browsing seems to be laggy - the first thing I check is speedtest.net. IMHO there is a relation - when my browsing is low my speedtest score is low.

Speedtest shows your download speed currently, which is shaped as per my earlier reply due to the network being very busy.

Would it be better if we prioritise speedtest like other ISP's? It seems like speedtest has become the bees knees in speed monitoring. Unfortunately, because it downloads a file to test your speed (and downloads are shaped during busy periods) it will show a slow result.

Meanwhile, browsing, which is never shaped, is running at full speed (unless you are downloading during shaped periods), but speedtest does not show this as it does not monitor browsing speeds, it monitors download speeds.

We have debated the speedtest priority topic for a long time. We would certainly get alot less support 'speed complaints'. But is it ethical? I don't think so.

I'm getting these speeds while trying to download drivers from Dell's website.
I could understand being limited to 3Mb (50% account speed), at a push I would acept 1.5Mb (25% account speed). What I'm currently experiencing is 3% of the account speed which I don't find acceptable.

Browsing has been painfully slow all day, but seems to be fast now.

What I'm reading from this is that the purchase of a 6Mb Gold Uncapped account does not suite our SME. The problem is the leap to uncapped platinum or business accounts is huge (2-2.5 times the price) and something I cannot justify. Is there any other product that will allow me to download drivers at 2-3Mb/s during business hours and won't cost me a kidney every month?

Lastly, I leave you with the Alot:

Perhaps you should consider one of our capped offerings?

Shaped products are not made for peak time downloads. Not until Telkom drops the cost of their IPC by at least 50%, then we can start looking at relaxing this.

You can browse around the forum, unfortunately all ISP's are affected by the cost of IPC.

PM me, and we can discuss capped solutions.

I have once again PM'd my details.

Hi Totem,

There is no need to post on the thread when you PM me.

I get a big notification of PM's received. I try and respond to all PM's in as short a time as possible.

Sorry about that. :( Just me being impatient. Thanks for the help so far. :)

Youtube or streaming as we call it falls under its own special category.

When the network is on Medium, full speed can be achieved to streaming sites.

Once the network is reaching capacity, we will shape streaming. It all happens automatically

I haven't posted here in a while, so I just wanted to post and say my Gold account is still going like a boeing. No complaints in recent memory.

Was hoping existing clients would get a special discount on capped products with OpenWeb :D

I am so happy to hear that :)

Enjoy!

I moaned and groaned about my slow ADSL speeds last week, and to their credit, OpenWeb responded and addressed the issue. I fully understand slow-downs during the day, that is to be expected on this kind of product, but being unable to even open a Google page was ridiculous.

I'm happy to report that, thus far, my internet has remained usable during the day, with marginal slow-downs, but nothing timed out, no websites line internet banking failed to open and I can even download software updates and patches when required.

Thank you to OpenWeb for being an ISP that responds and listens, this is indeed a far different user experience than I had with MWEB.

MrBEEP, my internet is generally slow.
I'm not to phased by my downloads, I know those pickup later (speed wise) it's everything else... It's dead slow... I tried to download CCleaner now for example, 5KB/s! Tried multiple locations.
My phone is downloading updates and they are soooooooooo slow!
I'm trying to open web pages, such as Twitter and EWN, all links are sooooooooooooooooo slow.
Facebook, DEAD.
Gmail, struggles to open.

Yet, I try do all these stuff on my 3G card, fast.

Even my Google Drive (though it doesn't need to sync) can't connect and NOD32 moans it can't update yet sites do work, just sooooooo slowly

Hi gdiza,

I will ask the engineers to look into why browsing is slow.

On the download side there is not much we can do during peak.

After around 18:00 things should look better

Besides the slowness I get this randomly during the day trying to BROWSE on Firefox:

The connection was reset

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Nightly is permitted to access the Web.

This indicates a fault.

Kindly PM me so that I can look into the account.

Please include your ADSL username and the full name and surname of the registered account holder.

My YouTube has been up and down all evening, even battling to stream at 96kbps from di.fm :(

Tracert looks good.

Hi Mr Beep,

My friend and I are both on the 2mb Gamers King package.

We're experiencing very high latency when playing Fifa14 on playstation network even though we're both situated in Cape Town. When we were both with Mweb the game always showed green bars for latency compared to the red single bar with Openweb???

We also have similar problems while playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3. I'm the only one showing high latency in an all South African lobby.

When I run speedtest I get good pings and download speeds both locally and internationally.

Please can you look into this as high gaming latency is not what your package promised. I suspect the problem may be because I'm routed through MTN Business when doing a tracert to www.mybroadband.co.za???

Thank you very much
