Has anyone's connection suddenly died?

My connection just died

Impossible to do anything...

4mb uncapped gold.

No issues here, running like butter like usual:

Do you guys mind telling me what you think of your gold accounts? I just finished a 4Mbps Gold Uncapped & Unshaped trial and it was awesome, but if regular gold is awesome it might not be worth the extra money. Changing in time for April.

Yes, my gold uncapped connection died at about midnight. Tried my Afrihost 1 GB free account, and it doesn't work either. My DSL modem says it has a DSL connection. Tried bouncing modem and router, but no luck yet :( Think I am going to email support now.

my 2mb gold account is running at more or less half speed at 02.03 in the morning. the line's been very erratic all day.

tested my afrihost, axxess, cybersmart, data pro and webafrica accounts - all normal.

not a telkom fault.

email support .. they're investigating mine and i have a temporary account to use while they investigate - temp account is 100%

Hey guys

Could someone tell me a bit about the 4mbps Gold Unshaped Uncapped?
How does it perform with different kinds of traffic?
We average about 200GBs a month?
We've got an 1mbps Standard Uncapped account at work and we've had some minor issue at one stage with slow speeds but never again. Uptime on the router just goes up and up.

Just looking for some updated info. No point in going back far into the thread and judging on old info :)

Thx

I'm also looking to get 4Mbps Gold Uncapped & Unshaped. Went on a 48 hour trial and the first day, Wednesday, was awesome. Torrents crept past 300KB/s, Youtube was snappy and is was just a pleasant experience. Yesterday however, was basically broken. Nothing, not even http, would get over 80KB/s. Resetting routers and ports did nothing, and changing back to my Mweb account achieved normal speeds.

What bothered me was that the Gold Uncapped & Unshaped is clearly not unshaped. If it was everything would fly as fast as possible like with my capped Afrihost account. So getting the regular Gold Uncapped might be better value for money.

Hello,

It was reported that Telkom performed some maintenance last night that caused issues in the Cape Town region.

We do apologise.

All was restored around 2 hours later.

Hi MrBEEP, I'm playing WoW at the moment on an EU server with my 10mb Gamer King account. Latency jumping around 300ms - 400ms, and it usually is 200ms.

Any idea why? Gaming traffic is supposed to be prioritized on a platinum level 24/7, yes?

Hi prodigyX,

There are currently no general latency issues on the network.

Please drop a mail to [email protected]

Please include a tracert to the affected server.

Hi MrBeep
I am on a 10mbps Gold Uncapped package.
I understand that this account is shaped during business hours when the network is busy.
Please would you clarify to what extent shaping will affect my account. As an example, what is the worst case scenario - is it 1mbps, 2mbps, etc? (I would like some form of clarification so that I know that a speed of, for example, 2mbps during such periods is normal otherwise I will constantly be sending through tickets to your support line for a situation that could be the norm).

I'll share my experience so far regarding OpenWeb's shaping if you're interested..

I'm on a 10mb shaped account (Gamer King) as well. Remember shaping is not like throttling (which is restricting overall speed equally across all protocols). You can't really ask what speed you are shaped to during the day because it depends on the protocol being used.

Today, for example:

My NNTP traffic is shaped to a fairly stable 340kBps / 2.7mbit.

P2P / Torrents are the same as NNTP, reaching a maximum of about 340kBps / 2.7mbit.

1080p YouTube is shaped to about 700kBps / 5.6mbit (average speed, it rapidly moves up and down between 600kBps and 900kBps).

My Steam downloads are pulling around 600kBps / 4.8mbit

A 'normal' HTTP download for me fluctuates between 400kBps / 3.2mbit & 800kBps / 6.4mbit - Similar to 1080p YouTube

After 7pm and on weekends, the line pretty much maxes out at 1.1mBps (8.6mbit - due to physical ADSL line restrictions / overheads) on all counts.

Of course, these numbers wouldn't be consistent every day. They theoretically could be better or worse depending on how busy the network is.

Hope this gives you something to compare against :)

Thanks prodigyX, much appreciate the response.
My situation is as follows (remembering that I am on a 10mb Gold Uncapped which, from what I understand, has a lower contention, higher priority than your Gamer King account during the day on most protocols, so my speeds should, on average be better than the account you are on?):

After 7pm and over weekends - the account most of the time flies at between 7 to 8mbit on all protocols -s o far so good.
During the day - from about 8am till about 3.30pm my torrents drop down to anything between 10kB/s and 150kB/s (these are the same torrents with exactly the same number of peer/seeds as what I am downloading at good speed after 7pm and over weekends).
When it comes to downloading using JDownloader, a download manager that allows for downloads via sites such as netload and uploaded, my speeds during the day - from about 8am till about 3.30pm hover around 200kB/s and say 250kB/s
During the day, - from about 8am till about 3.30pm, irrespective of whether I download using JDownloader or Torrents, or a combination thereof, total speed of all downloads using the above protocols/combination thereof, generally tends to be in the region of up to 250kB/s.
From 3.30pm during a working day, speeds slowly increase until after 7pm when I start seeing speeds close to 10mbit and then reduce to the speeds mentioned above after roughly 8am .

Is this the type of speeds that are normal on such protocols during the day from roughly 8am to 3.30pm on the 10mb Gold Uncapped, or am I being shapped to hell and gone during this period compared to other users on the same account?
That is what I am trying to figure out - any other comments would be most welcome (don't get me wrong, I think the package is a good one, I just am sceptical regarding the degree of shapping I am experiencing on the above protocols during the day).

Hi mika1000

I am currently connected to your account and its running at full speed.

Im actually getting 3.4Mbps on your 2Mbps account.

I would suggest reconfiguring your router as something could've corrupted itself.

I can confirm the account is working as it should

nothings loading, not ever mybb or facebook. whats wrong OW? had to switch to my afrihost account to write this.
