not choosing sides, but you can get a pretty good router in this dlink 2500u for R240

realise it is not the most optimal way of solving your problem.

Are we getting shaped today?

Yesterday all the speeds were perfect, today its crappy again?

If the public holiday falls on mon - friday then sadly yes. So it means we will be shaped today.... :(

BAAA! That explains why my streaming is horrible, good thing I checked here before emailing MrBEEP. Is this the normal speeds during business hours?

Hell, its not slow, its standing still. Steam wont log in and facebook takes 5 minutes to open.

I agree that IS is not the fastest backbone on weekdays during the day BUT that said weekends its pure awesomeness!!!!!!! I have standard 4Mbps uncapped on IS and its full line speed most of the times. Only a bit slowish during the day mon to fri

After hours is great, but I'm wondering why I am paying a premium for Gold, when the only apparent difference in performance is that "slowish" becomes "extremely slow indeed" for the extra cash I'm paying. HTTP downloads running at 1/10th to 1/20th of line speed is just woeful.

I was hopeful the poor daytime performance last week was just a temporary glitch and the shaping/throttling would become much more acceptable this week, but I don't see any change at all. It is still pathetic.

Not quite sure what you guys are on about. My local speedtests are maxing out my line, and even doing an HTTPS tunnel to the UK on a non-standard port single thread gives me this:

EDIT: I am on @openweb.co.za domain

But the standard response is: unplug for 20 minutes, your router is faulty etc.

Come on MrBeep, drop IS and give us something that works!!!

IS works awesome for some, sucks for the rest. Mine used to work.

PoiZ, my offer still stands for me to take my router to your place so we can see if it is your equipment / exchange you are connected to. Drop me a PM if you want

I'm on IS in Cape Town, Openweb Gold and it is flying for me... no problems internationally and downloads also running at full speed.

I will. But if it is the router, why was it flying yesterday the whole day, and this morning, bang on after 8am, it virtually fell on its knees?

Whackhead's 1.7mb podcast took 20 minutes, most international sites take ages, local seems fine.

Edit: 384 ADSL I have.
