I usually don't mind the shaping during business hours as I am not home but it is a bit disappointing.
Don't know if this matters but have only done 113gig for the month.

Why is it the 3/4 4mb gold users(the posters above me)that are shaped today apposed to the 2 4mb standard guys that are not?>.< Was hoping that this would have cleared up and was just temp thing this morning but I guess ill give MrBEEP a msg.

I have also messaged Mr Beep again. I also messaged him several times last week, and was told "Im afraid we cannot offer a 24/7 download service on this product type."

Well, that is not how 4MB Gold has been hyped and marketed.

There really doesn't seem to be a difference between Gold and Standard? Pondering a downgrade.

The message back: " Torrents and downloads will be shaped today as the network was very busy. Things should normalise again after 18:00 "

Anyway, I was provided with a new login which works in the way I would expect a Gold account to work. So things should be okay... until next time.

Seems fine my side.

Sometimes I get horrendous daytime shaping, sometimes I get great speeds. Can't complain too much, it would just be nice to have a consistent product, because it sucks if I have to download a file and then find that the shaping for that day doesn't allow me to do so and have to go to university and pay 50c/mb for the download when I've got uncapped at home.

Completely agree with you. Why pay R700+ to get a shaped account during the business hours, when there are loads of other options for the same thing out there, but much less.

Seems the account is only worth your while if you download less than a gigabyte or 2 a day, however since my household has 5 people using the internet as well as general downloading during the night, we use around 10gb a day. At this point the account becomes completely shaped during the business hours. Can barely go on international websites and services such as Steam do not work.

For those of you that don't know, you can check your usage at http://users.isdsl.net
Would be interesting to see how much the "Average MB Used Per Day" for people that aren't shaped.

My current speeds tests are (On my 4Mbps Gold Uncapped account):

Local
Download Speed: 1620 kbps (202.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 103 kbps (12.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 346 ms

International:
Download Speed: 340 kbps (42.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 134 kbps (16.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 499 ms

This is without a single person other in the house. So nobody is using up bandwidth.

Hope this problem gets sorted out soon.

Hi Simple,

Please email [email protected] so that we can take a deeper look for you.

Your normal browsing, streaming etc should not be affected by shaping!

I have been having problems for 2 weeks now with crawling download speeds, even a simple driver download from our site takes forever. For all the time i have been with OW i have never experienced such shaping during the weekday.

Speedtest taken yesterday:

Local: Download: 0.56Mbps
Upload: 0.38Mbps
Latency: 270ms

Same test this morning

Local: Download: 0.72Mbps
Upload: 0.37Mpbs
Latency: 296ms

All this on a 4MB uncapped GOLD account.

OpenWeb cancellation

I've been a OpenWeb customer for 7 years. I tolerated many of the shaping problems in the past but over the last few months it became impossibly slow. HTML / web speeds of 2kb-20kb on a 4mb line!
I also signed up right in the beginning when they were the first to offer 30gig packs per month.
Every now and again I would email OpenWeb support to shift me to a higher package until I was on the 4mb Gold Uncapped costing me around R700 p/m.

Now that I try to cancel due to bad service they throw me with a 30 day cancellation notice period. Which NEVER existed as far as I've been a client. My signature is on no contract stipulating their cancellation policy neither have I used their website to purchase my account. I've always just used email.

So they are blatantly bullying me illegally and their rude response was to contact their legal department.

My recommendation is. Don't put up with OpenWeb's bull**** and switch to one of the other Uncapped accounts like Mweb. Incidentally my account with Mweb is 30% cheaper and 1400% faster. I didn't switch for the past year out of Loyalty. In the past I even referred clients and friends to OpenWeb.

Now you suck!

Hi dirkcloete,

Kindly refer to our Terms of Service you agreed to:

* When you signed up, irrelevant of method
* Logged on to your ADSL account the first time
* Logged on to your ADSL account
* Used your ADSL account

It clearly states the calendar months cancellation period.

Please email your dispute to [email protected] as a post on a public forum will not submit your dispute for consideration.

Hello,

Please email [email protected] with your ADSL username so that it can be investigated,

Wow who hit the brakes? All was speed and now screeeeeeech!!!!!!! Is there a lot of shaping happening that wasn't happening before? Openweb won't move me back to VB after they moved me when VB was having a problem. I never experience such slowness on VB, but looks like I am stuck with IS :( which has never worked for me like gold uncapped should. I hate IS, always have, but now I have no choice as Openweb says their VB is sold out. Grrrrrr.
