Openweb uncapped ADSL feedback

Is anyone else on Gold Uncapped having any speed issues recently?

I'm not sure what backbone I'm on.. Any way to find out?

I used my account for three days last week, was full speed all the time, then my line went dead for 5 days, Telkom fixed it yesterday and now my Openweb account is unusually slow. Last night it was fast, over 500 KB/s, but today I'm getting 100KB/s and less :( I understand downloads are/can be shaped during the day, I've just never seen it happen at this level with Openweb Gold.

Can you remember your ADSL username? Otherwise email MrBEEP.

Can I access my username? I'm not too sure what you're asking, I do have my username..

If it keeps up I will, otherwise I'm not that concerned. If speeds are good this weekend I'll be happy :)

To check your backbone, go to speedtest.net and look under your IP address.

Just an update, after my router unexpectedly reset I was getting full speed again. Flying at 640KB/s at the moment!

Great work as always Openweb!

Hi All

I am a Afrihost user and have been for some time, I'm thinking of going over to openweb to get some better performance/speed...any views?

I used the 4 Mbps uncapped from Afrihost - Not too bad, but got a bit slow over time
Tried the 1 Mbps unshaped/uncapped package and honestly, i would rather stay on the shaped packages...:wtf:

Will I be able to get 10GB+ a day on the 4Mbps Gold Uncapped ADSL from openweb?
Currently my torrents dont even run 20-40kB/s, http is also slow...reaching not more than 60kB/s

There is nothing wrong with my line...Telkom was at my house 6 times already

Would the gold package provide a more suitable internet experience overall?
Im really tired of the same old issues...I started with Digichilli, then MWEB, then IS and finally Afrihost but it seems the more you pay the less you get...

Youtube - Not even showing thumbnails of the videos for some time, streaming very slow
Torrents - Slow overall
Browsing - Takes longer than usual
Gaming - What gaming...pffft:wtf:

Regards

I'm using a standard uncapped account with them I got on special and its also pretty damn good. I can get max speed whenever I want. That is just the standard so I would imagine that the Gold would be far superioir.

Anyone else having issues?

I am normally not home during the day, but had the last 2 days off, and either i am being throttled to death during the day or something is up, just about nothing works.

Mine has worked alright the past two days, normal browsing is fine but downloads go at 20KB/s average, way lower than what I used to see. As soon as it hits around 17:00 I get full speed on downloads.

I've been reading threads about different ISP ADSL services and finding it hard to decide which is really the best. I have past experience with several ISPs on uncapped or capped accounts and in general all have provided some frustrations relating to connection speed/disconnections. I'm currently on a 1MB line and capped account (not with OW) and not happy with the shaping on a capped account especially at certain times when it goes below 20 KB/s for long periods and disconnects regularly each day.

I'm considering changing ISP and reading about the VB backbone, wondering if it is worth signing up for a GOLD account?

Definitely, I have been with openweb gold for over a year now and before moving to them I tried all the others {or most}, they provide consistently good speeds. The gold accounts are slightly more pricey than other uncapped accounts but the extra is well worth the cost.

You can also just sign up for one month to test them out...

Thanks, I may give it a go after my month's notice. Just still unsure of going for uncapped or capped ... I cannot pay for much more than 10GB capped 'unshaped', but could use maybe 5 to 10GB extra for downloads I usually pass because of the cap. My experience with uncapped though, is that it bogs down during daytime, but if Openweb Gold uncapped is an exception? ... I will definitely switch over.
