Openweb uncapped ADSL feedback

Hi, I am on 4m gold - not getting more than 1m at the moment. Will keep an eye on it and if it does not improve I will send MRBeeb a mail.

I'm crawling here (Cape Town, Claremont), been like this for a few days, completely broken during the day, after hours picks up quite a bit at about 6pm, but it's still not perfect. The jump back at 6pm last night was essentially instant, which makes me think it's overly aggressive shaping.

The daytime stuff isn't just normal office-hours shaping, there's heavy packet loss, pages take ages to start loading then die half way through. Local CDNs seem to suffer the same, with the only exception of Amazon which seems perfect.

Edit: I have contacted and tried the new account (mynetwork->openweb), it seems ever so slightly better, but still impossible to use :<

Thanks MrBeep, seems like everything is running like usual now and that means it's running nice and fast :)

@openweb.co.za is also on the IS network, so it's not all that surprising that your experience didn't change that much. Some guys in the Afrihost thread were talking about there being a fault on the IS network in Cape Town last week causing slow speeds (think it was an IPC fault, or something like that), not sure if it's still ongoing.

Regardless, I've never had a satisfactory experience on the IS network. I try and avoid it at all costs.

Torrents crawling under 2kb/s again on BCS tonight. Sigh.

Edit: Switched to a capped account. Going full speed.

Trying to get updates and drivers for something I'm fixing at a brisk 75kb/s :(

That's on a 4meg uncapped OW "gold" account.

MrBeep what backbones can I move to? I'm sick of IS already.

Well, there's BCS, IS, DSLHeaven, and I think that's it.

The only one that was worth using, VB, is no longer available to us.

Torrents still crawling below 2kb/s on my BCS account btw. The account is giving me more and more reason to cancel this so-called 'Gold' product I'm using day after day.

Getting pretty tired of some protocols being unusable, and then either being told the fault is at my end or simply being moved to the next backbone with its own issues.

I've even made a quick little graph illustrating my satisfaction with the product over the last year.

I think I should just give up on the OW account and move to Mweb. Ever since losing my VB account, every backbone I've been on has not been worth the extra money I pay for it. I'd rather pay cheaper with Mweb, get a bit worse contention ratios, but be assured of being able to use the account all times of the day without certain protocols being killed off entirely.

I'm trying to download a simple 40mb game from Desura, and it is simply not working. I am so tired of this account being so unreliable, then just getting moved to the next backbone so I can experience some further issues there.

WHEN ARE THESE ACCOUNTS GOING TO START PERFORMING LIKE THEY SHOULD AGAIN? I AM TALKING IN ALL CAPS TO INDICATE THAT I AM NOW ANGRY.

I sommer feel like buying cap somewhere and sending the invoice to OpenWeb.

I hear you bud, had the same problem with OW for months, finally put my foot down and threatened to change ISP's, they stepped up and i now have a fully functioning account and am quite happy. The important thing to remember is feedback, MrBeep and the crew can't help unless you let them know what your problem is and if the steps they took to fix it worked. And Telkom is not entirely faultless either, just saying...

The problem is just, I've been having non-stop issues with OW for the last month. I'm so tired of logging tickets just to be told the issue is my side or to be moved to the next faulty account. I just want an uncapped account that works again.

Right now I might as well not have an Uncapped account, because I can't use it. Last night I had to switch to my 1gb Afrihost account just so I could download a file. I don't see why my 2gb Mweb and 1gb Afrihost accounts run fine but every account OpenWeb gives me is problematic.

It's all just so frustrating that I actually feel like just crying. :/

Sent Openweb a screen shot of my downloads maxing out at 4KB/s during the day and their response was "This is a shaped protocol and will be slower during busy periods." Not good for what is supposed to be a premium product. I'm definitely cancelling.

Then the problem is not your side, it's theirs and the onus is on OW to sort you out

Personally I can understand torrents being throttled during office hours, these are, after all, Home Uncapped accounts and providers do need to limit p2p traffic to an extent to make sure that regular http, port 80 traffic is reliable. The problem I had when I used OW at home was that even 'legit' traffic was really, really bad.

I wonder whatever happened to MrBeep's promise that they won't stop selling VB accounts?

Morning Friends,

This thread is proof enough that the decision to drop this network was wrong!

I made the decision this morning to continue selling VB.

I apologise for the inconvenience caused!

We will work out a fault resolving plan with the network in question.

Thank you so much for your feedback. This is why I love receiving live, on the spot feedback from our most valued clients!

Only three months ago.

So it was basically nothing but an empty promise? Because I certainly haven't been offered another VB account.

As it stands now, OpenWeb Gold is really crappy and I'd feel bad if I recommended it to anyone.
