Openweb uncapped ADSL feedback

Ah, okay. Thought it was an issue specific to the IS network.

On another note, my once wonderful IS account has taken a nosedive. Daytime IS speeds are shaped to death to the point where I'm lucky if I get more than 6kb/s on a download. This would be acceptable if the shaping was lifted at an appropriate after-hours time, but it's not. It usually gets lifted only at 10-11PM, which sucks because then I'm already getting ready for bed.

Hi Graal,

This is not a fault on the account as per my reply on the previous thread.

For the last week shaping was lifted at 18:00 as the network was quiet.

You indicated that this has been going on for a week. This is definitely not shaping, as shaping was lifted daily at 18:00 this week. Probably the port again.

Thanks! Running full speed again now, so either it needed the port reset or it's the shaping that just got lifted.

Out of interest, what exactly does a port reset do? I always hear people asking for them or ISPs doing port resets, but I don't really know what it is. Just always been curious about it.

Basically, we refresh your port at Telkom. A port refers to the DSLAM port in your exchange

Some ISP's actually allow you to do this yourself in your client zone.

Hi Guys

Just a heads up - torrents and similar are set to run slightly slower tomorrow due to the major Apple updates currently taking place. Things should start clearing by tomorrow evening.

In response to my previous comment yesterday. I sent an email to support and got a new username within 10mins. On the same backbone and running full speed. I just don't understand why this was needed but at least its working nicely now again. Thanks.

Refrain from posting irrelevant comments. This forum is about OpenWeb feedback, not what other ISP's do or don't do. Here we assist our clients in resolving issues. I do not wish to have the thread filled with flaming or irrelevant remarks.

Wow, I see the attitudes changed quite a bit in here since I changed ISP. Relax....

Thats the great thing about OpenWeb. No other ISP I know of would do that for you. Quick, easy, problem gone.

4MB GOLD UNCAPPED

Was a little worried this week as browsing speeds where slow (Gmail / Youtube), really slow. Was about to email MrBeep to also request a new account but obviously patience has paid off and all is back to normal this morning I see. Woohoo!!

There is increased shaping today as the networks are extremely busy with the Apple updates. Things should start settling tomorrow.

was blissful over the past few weeks and today craaaaaawl....sudden shaping?

So Apple sneezes and we all catch the cold? how arrogant, they should suffer like the rest of us.
