I have just had the same problem being charged R2.00 OOB rate ?? . bought a 50mb data bundle on 3/11/2012 - the bundle was used up by the next day 4th. Was charged 15c per mb for the rest of that day but the next day was charged R34.00 for 17mb ??
I wonder how many others are being caught by this OOB shark. They are behaving worse than vodacon and I have always been very pro cell c since they brought out the R999.00 for 24gb prepaid bundle. I have sent a message to cell c and am waiting for a response.
if I get one I will post it here.

good day

please PM your details and i will have a look at this for you.

regards,
bas

Suggestion :

Use wifi and ADSL extensively if you're at home/work (should your device support wifi).

In between, use 3g networks.

If only they can make an app (android) which will enable/disable 3G/wifi for you...

Yes, keep on buying bundles. It works for me.

I could just keep buying small 50MB bundles whenever I go OOB just to be sure I don't get charged more than 15c/mb. This is annoying and inconvenient though since I have to constantly watch my usage and check whether I'm being charged 15c/mb or 99c/mb. It seems that people are randomly being charged 99c/mb from this thread after their bundle runs out.

CellC - why dont you post and update of what to do to fix thsi up? Why do some people get charged OOB >15c? Give your loyal users an explanation then we understand!

good day

the OOB rate will kick in only if you have loaded an additional bundle on your line and you will be charged 15cents per MB for the period in which the bundle is valid

That is not correct in my case. Did load a 50mb bundle on 3/11/2012 but on 5/11/2012 when 50mb used up it changed to R2 per mb. OOB rate appears to only apply for a day or so.

Why do we have to buy bundles, in/oob is the same @ 15c per meg. Why not doing it the Virgin Mobile way where you just simply use your airtime for data?
What am i missing?

Thanks so much.
While you are doing this you may want to ask your web development team to also see why one gets no response not even an automated response to 3 submissions to your write to us link\

Thanks so much. Have checked. That has resolved the money issue which in my opinion is the small component of this issue.
The issue is really
Cell c have the best prepaid data option and are losing a lot of this marketing potential because of the following reasons.
1) Many people cannot be sure that they will remain at 15c OOB and have to keep checking which will drive them away as they do not have the time to check and then complain when not charged the correct rate. Also it would be great if one received some notification that the bundle time limit was exceeded ie after 30 days via sms. There is no way of checking this online as well.
2) if I did not know about this option of communicating with cell c on mybroadband I would probably have decided to go for other service providers.
ie your website write to us feedback is poor - 3 days and still waiting for some form of response. Most people would have given up and cut their losses and moved elsewhere.
Lastly someone else said why is it not possible to just charge 15c per mb in and out of bundle - very simple and I am sure you will gain a lot of customers for this simplicity.
thanks.

@rory: couldn't agree more, i've moved bac to VC despite the higher charges b/c i found myself repeatedly losing money on CellC for OOB overcharging and i was tired of having to check all the time. As far as i'm concerned, at VC i'm paying more but i have peace of mind. (and to be honest i find their network more reliable too)
Maybe one day i'll reconsider CellC if you sort out their issues.

It seems as if the problem is sorted out now. My 50mb bundle ran out on 14/11/2012. I am now charged 15c/mb OOB as it should be. Thanks for sorting it out :)

Moving to CellC prepaid now. I'm just going to buy the 3Gb for R400 for 12 months bundle, so that I don't have to check what I'm being charged all the time. Works out cheaper than 15c/mb too.
