[Personal Experiences] Hisense TV's

The B8600 looks like it ticks all the right boxes. Any specials on 65" model?
 
Hi guys, bought one of the 55" Q8600's at Dion Wired and very happy with it!

What I am wondering is whether it is possible to flash Android TV onto it rather than being stuck with the Vidaa U 3.0 app ecosystem? Any ideas?

Just buy a apple tv 4k media player and you sorted.

I went to Tafelberg furnitures over the weekend to check their price on the Hisense 55q8600 before buying - they could not price match the R9999 from Dion Wired, saying that they only buy it from their suppliers for 12k...

Now whether this is true or not I'm not sure, but they were unable to match the price. Also from what I can gather after extensive research the 55Q8600 is the H9F equivalent locally.

@Hisense SA how come the main retailers not stocking the 65" model?

What's the benefit of having the Android software instead of the Vidaa?
I mean, sure, there's a better app store but what type of apps make sense to have on a TV when you already have a pocket full of apps on your phone?
I'm trying to decide between the 58B7200 Android, the 55B8000, the 55Q8600 and a 55QLED.
Not necessarily price sensitive, but Dolby Vision is swinging me away from Samsung.
I have been holding out on buying a tv since Jan in hopes that Hisense will release a HDR10+ firmware update on their Dolby Vision TV's so that I can feel future-proofed for the next couple of years no matter who wins the format wars.

So i have downloaded the file that was sent and followed these instructions as i usually do when updating the software but for some reason this bin file does not pickup on the device.

UPGRADING THE TV SOFTWARE

THE USB 3.0 IS COLORED BLUE AND THE USB 2.0 IS COLORED WHITE. WHEN UPDATING, PLEASE USE THE USB 2.0 PORT COLORED WHITE.
MAKE SURE THE USB IS EMPTY WITH NO FILES OR FOLDERS IN USB.
UNZIP THE FILE AND ONLY TAKE THE SOFTWARE TO THE USB WHOSE NAME ENDS UP WITH .PKG. DON’T CHANGE THE NAME OF FILE, DON’T PUT INSIDE A FOLDER, DON’T COPY THE ZIPPED FILE.
THE BEST IS TO FORMAT THE USB – FAT32 OR FAT16.

OPTION 1
SWITCH THE TV ON, PULL THE PLUG OFF THE WALL, PLUG THE USB IN, PRESS AND KEEP PRESSING THE POWER BUTTON ON REMOTE, PUT PLUG BACK INTO THE WALL. MAKE SURE THE REMOTE IS POINTED TO SENSOR AND IS +/- 40CM FROM TV SET.

OPTION 2
KEEP PRESSING THE SAME BUTTON ON REMOTE FOR 5-10 SECONDS WHILE SWITCHING ON THE TV. IT WILL DISPLAY “SOFTWARE UPDATING” ON THE SCREEN.
THE TV WILL IDENTIFY AND UPGRADE THE SOFTWARE AUTOMATICALLY.
AFTER A SUCCESSFUL UPDATE THE TV WILL AUTOMATICALLY RESTART.

It might not pickup because the file is not extracted until *.bin or you gave me the wrong firmware version information. I suggest you give me the full firmware version so I could check.
Have you tried selecting update from usb in the support menu?

Good day @Hisense SA

This is a picture taken with the version hats installed on my 43N3000. I have extracted the file that was in the zip folder and used 3 usb device and converted them to FAT32 and FAT16.

That could be deemed a proper BLACK FRIDAY deal I guess. Found it strange being on eBucks there is never anything there worth mentioning.

Not impressed so far with with Black Friday deals must be honest. Lived through a proper US black Friday last year (worked there for three months). South Africa pails in comparison. Crazy deals. Head was spinning.

Anyways cant decide if extra spend on Q8600 is worth it. It's out of my budget by about 2.5k.
