Pricing : What am I missing?

I've got that 1mbps uncapped promo, which is probably the Do uncapped at R800.00pm (R140.00 + R290.00 + R370.00)

I thought upgrading after the promo and checked the Do uncapped on the site ... R2,650.00om! (R140.00 + R413.00 + R2,100.00!) ... a huge increase!

Popped to Mweb site and I see uncapped 4mbps (including data) is R899.00 ... so a total of R1,040.00.

I'm guessing the Mweb and Telkom are offering something different ... and Telkom is shaped data too?
What else is the difference?

Telkom's 4Mb uncapped is expensive. But it also has no thresholds (subject to http://www.telkom.co.za/general/termsandconditions/downloads/TelkomInternetAUP.pdf) or throttling.

Not according to their website. I also thought it was unshaped (as per old telkomsa.net site) but on Do.co.za it says it's a shaped service.

There's no way in hell Telkom is unshaped. Snap out of your dream world. "No Speed Restrictions" just means that you can fully saturate a 4mbps line if you want. SPEED <> SHAPING

When I signed it it was made clear that they do not shape traffic but will throttle traffic if their network became congested. Even Rudi Jansen made the distinction at the time.

Jansen added that the increased competition is good news for consumers. “Differences such as Telkom throttling the user but not shaping traffic and MWEB only shaping traffic, not throttling traffic, will become important when subscribers choose their ISP,” said Jansen.

I've checked... it is based on shaped data.

Speed-wise I'm extremely happy. I cannot comment on latency as I'm not gaming atm. I have not detected any throttling on my 1Mb/s account. DL's fly at all times of the day
