Problems cancelling Telkom services

careful, raised a similar concern on another thread and got hammered by some trolls

I had, or am having (no idea which yet) the same problem. Sent the cancellations email address a message, automated message said I needed to fill out a form and send it to them, I did that, and then never heard another word about it. Got an SMS a while later saying they were sad I was no longer going to be an ADSL client, then a few days later sent me an invoice for the following month showing the things I had just cancelled. I ignored it (they say if you have paid to ignore it, I had cancelled, so I ignored it), and then got another one sent the following month saying I was in arrears.

I sent the cancellations email address a follow up email saying I had requested a cancellation 2 months prior, and they better sort it out and close the account after clearing any amount showing as in arrears. Still haven't heard anything from them.

I had the same happen and was told there is a 30 day cancellation period so i had to pay for the extra month. I was also then billed in advance for the next month and was told it would be reversed on the next order, which it was. I then received an sms saying my balance was zero, which I knew was a lie. Phoned them and arranged a refund for the negative balance.

They will bill you for about 6 months..

Then hand you over to a debt collection agency..

THEN they will cancel it and process refunds, but you will still get bugged by the collection agency until you swear at them and threaten them with legal action

I remember it being a pain in the arse when I wanted to cancel my contract with them and port back to Vodacom. I tried with the call centre multiple times (that music they played seemed to have been selected on purpose to actually make you end the call. I have never heard such irritating music in my life. It actually makes you aggresive). I also had to visit the store multiple times. I highly doubt I will go with Telkom again for anything due to that experience.

Yup same boat, cancelled in September.

Went to go check in the store that i cancelled at and it is in the system so explain that one to me.

Great timing with the link in the article, I was just about to go hunt for the cancellation form after the agent failed to email it to me yesterday in spite of her promises.

I sent the form to service cancellation email address giving more than a months notice for the home phone and adsl. I also got the company secretary email and copied that address in the email. Did get confirmation so lets see what happens. I think Telkom likes the fight so just be prepared.

I'll never sign up with Telkom again, due to their service and especially their cancellations.

I have cancelled other services with other parties with just a click of the button. No silly form needed to be printed, filled out, emailed and then cross-fingers-hoping-it-gets-processed.

The easier it is to cancel, the more likely I am to recommend them or resubscribe to their services. Also @Telkom it is time to move your forms to be fully digital, gone are the days of asking people to print and scan and fax/email them. Thought you guys were going green...

Last time I sent in a cancellation form to Telkom, I followed up every day for about two weeks until a real person acknowledged receipt. I can't help but assume the process is so opaque and difficult in order to retain customers for as long as possible. Well, either that or just complete ineptitude.
