Rain users are angry - Here is why

22 downlaod...3.67 upload....30 ping
Beats Vodacom where I live....doing fine by me then.....!
I remember the good old days of GPRS in my area....

Got rain and with an average download speed of 2mb and max download speed of 4mb (Pings over 500ms) it got cancelled within 5days. Customer service saying I am in the coverage area. Tried it at 4 different areas (30km radius) and speeds were everywhere the same. Tried 2 different modems as well. MTN gave in that same areas 50mb download speed. Shame on you RAIN! This is all in Port Elizabeth.

Well 5G still booming

I have to keep reminding myself that this is the year 2002 to stay sane.

Needless to say I will be cancelling shortly.

Rain are not having network capacity issues where I am in Durban. They are simply shaping the services that most people are using, like anything to do with streaming so that they can save on data. Here is an example;

Looks great, right?
Then you go to Fast.com (which is Netflix) and you get this:

These are done within a minute of each other.

I am paying for 220GB of data per month at R1349. Why should I experience any shaping at all when I want to stream something? These people are robbing us.

YMMV.

Quite simply the case with any Fixed/LTE due to the technology used/limitations.

Yeah well all the Vodacom users roaming on Rain aren't exactly helping the situation....
Yeah well, that's what we said....
Lot of excuses, but what was not said, is that when their fixed LTE went from 40 Mbps to 2 Mbps they - and the ISP - not once tried to explain or inform of fix. All the time taking R900 plus every month.

Wireless is not fibre no matter what snakeoil they are selling. Yes 5G is great - but RF is a shared medium. All these tests on empty towers are next to meaningless. I would like somebody to test jitter once the towers come under a bit of load.

But 5G has its place. I would choose 50Mbps fibre over "up to 200Mbps" wireless any day.

And you think Fibre is not contended? You will be a bit naive to think that fibre means you always get 50Mbps. Probably less contended than 5G but at R1000 it pretty much beats any fibre deal out there.

im getting the same..any advice from forum leaders contributors on increasing speeds external antenna will work as when i take my rain 112 -370 5G router outdoors it performs well 250+ mb/s . my old Poynting XPOL 6 10m LTE 4G antenna doesnt improve the speed ..it comes down in fact.. i did dedicate the SMA ports in the huawei firmware to see only external antennas this made the reception worse ....what antenna should i use?? ...i will be selling my Poynting XPOL 6 10m LTE 4G that served me great for my rain 4G any rain users interested it increased my speed greatly... for R599 any takers message me here in this post stream....Ponting XPOL 6 10m Antenna only selling as ive moved to 5G its weathered but works great for LTE A application on Huawei B315 or 525 routers

Rain was quite nice this week at work. Got ~18mbps when we needed it. Died shortly afterwards though - 100% dead, no connection at all.

Ditto, but on a 20/20 Accelerit FF fibre line:
