*READ FIRST* MTN Network Status & Issues (DNS, Throughput and Latency)

What's the process to report a faulty tower for MTN? In Parkmore the area roughly bordered Olympia Rd, 11th Street, Marie Ave and Holt Street has 0% data throughput with 4/5 bar connection on my iPhone 14 - can't connect to speedtest etc.

As soon as I leave the area, 500m away I have full throughput.

Mtn speeds all over Cape Town have been terrible for months now, other than a few pockets that are fast it’ll often loose all throughput or be deathly slow.

Yes. Link issues between Germiston and Randburg causing equipment overload protections to kick in causing intermittent services.
Yip. Calls not going through at times and when they do 5G and LTE drops down to 3g or GPRS. Still a problem now in Roodepoort at 18h00.

Problems with some international connectivity most of today via our LTE. MTN's service map shows a big increase in issues across the country.

It keeps coming back for a few minutes, then gone again.

We're getting around it all by using our Desktop Windscribe VPN app. Not all locations work, for via US routing the best seems to be Miami "Snow" - also available on the free version.

Anyone else having issues with MTN calls to other networks?

Noticed recently that often the first attempt at calling fails, but immediately re-dialling again for a second time works fine.

Doesn't happen for all calls, but often enough to have piqued my interest.

I think the start of the issue coincided with the VoLTE icon starting to appear on the device a couple of months ago, but haven't yet troubleshooted it to confirm whether the issue is definitely linked to that or not.

It shouldn't, if anything it should improve your experience as you are not dropping down to 3G when you make a call, CSFB.

I need information related to accessing MTN 5G which is probably available on WWW and MTN website:

I am currently on MTN's Ruby 70GB month-to-month. I upgraded my phone to a 5G-capable model. Based on online research, it appears I won't simply be able to access MTN's 5G network when I move my current LTE SIM into the new 5G-capable phone? Thank you.

Rather post a new forum thread about your query since it doesn't fall under this threads topic.

A number of devices require you to turn off your power saving to be able to access 5G, try that, and if that doesn't work, you may need a sim swap? It's a product that is automatically loaded to your profile.

The poster moved this query to another forum thread due to it being off thread topic.

I disabled power saving and voila, the phone switched from 4G to 5G! I ran a speed test, got 130Mbps on downlink. Thank you.

No probs, but I would suggest that when you are not using the 5G for data transfer, then put power saving back. 5G totally CHOWS the battery..

I'm trying to buy a bundle on the app, but it keeps giving an error. Am I doing something wrong, or is there a problem with their system?

Edit: I can select the bundle now, but no matter what payment option I select I get an error saying a "technical glitch" has occurred
