Router Battery Backup

Hi

I ordered the Gizzu 8800mAh Mini DC UPS - https://www.takealot.com/gizzu-8800mah-mini-dc-poe-ups-black/PLID69282110.
Together with an universal laptop power supply - https://www.takealot.com/dw-laz009-laptop-universal-power-adaptor-12-24v-ac-dc-100w/PLID68793301.

I have an Asus router with an input: 19v and 1.75A,
and a Alcatel Lucent ONT with an input: 12V and 1.5A.

I want to power both units with the Gizzu DC UPS, but I am unsure if the UPS will satisfy the power requirement? (The universal laptop PSU will be used to transform the one output of the UPS to the required 19V of the Asus router) The UPS has an output of 12V/3A which gives a total of 36W... Is that enough? If so, how long will I be able to power both units?

Thanks!

That's hard to say without accurate measurements of the device's power draw. We now it's not more than 51.25W, but whether it's less than 36W (including inefficiencies from the universal PSU) is anyone's guess. Best bet is to give it a try and see what happens

Okay thanks! I guess there is one way to find out. Hopefully it lasts longer than 2.5 hours!

Without comparing specs, I've estimated my 18AH 12V backup to last over 12h powering ONT, 2X routers, SIP phone, oh also an entire alarm system.

Yours should be 8.8AH @ 3.6V, so equivalent of a 2.6AH 12V battery. My estimate is you'll make it for 2.5h, but not much more.

Hi all I’ve gone through the posts here and I’m even more confused, what would I need to power the ONT box and a WiFi router for 4-6 hours, how much am I looking to spend and what’s the most cost effective solution out there ?

ONT: 12.0 V; 1.0 A
WiFi Router: 5V; 1A

You need a 15w (or more) ups with at least 60wh of battery.

First prize would be a ratel 860p, if you can find stock, for around R1500k.

I'll prefix this with me knowing the owner of this (we went to uni together)...

I was looking for router style UPS' beginning of the year and asked in a few groups and an old friend sent me a link to a business he was doing. I figured I'd check it out and I got the multi-voltage unit on his site. I have it hooked up to an ASUS AC68 (19v) router and a fibre ONT (12v) device, along with an efergy energy monitoring hub (5v). All 3 devices run perfectly fine for the full 2.5 hours load-shed (I have not tested how long it does last). But it was enough to get me through the load-shedding crap beginning of the year and now its really saving the work at home stuff.

This is not me advertising or shiz but its what worked for me and didn't cost me a lot
Crap thing is he has no more stock and the lockdown/covid means he hasn't been able to get stuff. I'm waiting to get one for my folks

This one has both 9v and 12v output.

@speedster @ginggs thanks for your suggestions
I ordered this from them https://shop.dbg.co.za/mups30w13ah.html
Description says it comes with a DC splitter.
I hope it resolves my issue. Will provide feedback once I use it.

Hi all..

Considering these 2:
https://www.takealot.com/eaton-5e-ups-650va-230v/PLID47486924
I've read Eaton is the best in UPS and the reviews suggest the battery capacity retains longer than the RTC, so would prefer this, but the outputs would not directly accomodate my plugs for Router and ONT.

https://www.takealot.com/rct-650va-line-interactive-ups/PLID32714409
Not the first option, but the 3 point plug means I can plus my router and ONT directly into the UPS.

The purpose is only for wifi during loadshedding, no other devices.

What do you guys think???

Rather go for one of the lithium battery backup solutions, such as the Ratel or Uniterm's micro ups range.

I’ve got a similar ups. 12v unit which powered my ont at 12v and the 9v router I used to have. Never had issues at all. Even once I changed my router the old one is still being used by someone I gifted it to without any hassles

So, currently, what is the best option for a PI4 , CPE, and a MikroTik ?

This one only has one DC output. You planning to use the DC splitter and then power both the 9v and 12v device?
Yes. The fiber is 12v so that is going to work.
The router is 9v but I gave it 12v and was still working so I am assuming it will work with the UPS.
I am so happy with the router, it's not picky about the voltage it gets, it works with my powerbank which gave it 5.6v, then it worked with a sealed lead acid battery which gave it 6v and works with the 12v power supply as well.

I need to power a Nighthawk router and ONT and am considering either the:
- Vizia UPS 12V (2400mAh) Lithium Battery Power Bank for R1399 (2 of these), or
- Mecer 2000VA interactive UPS (battery lead acid 12 V/9 Ah x 2 ) for R2,399

From the reviews on the Mecer most users are only getting 2 hours for a router/ont; while the Vizia product claims 5 hours! I'm no electrical engineer, so which one will provide power backup for the longest period? Assuming you use them to maximise battery life. thx

I had the RTC, worked great, until Level 4 loadshedding hit, then there wasn't enough time to charge between sheddings and the battery was horribly maimed to death. That 7ah isn't built for this ****.
Then I got the ratel, last year. One load shedding, and it still has 70% left on the battery and it is pulling two routers at the same time.

It also recharges way quicker than the RTC. RTC needs quite a few hours to fully charge after a load shed session. The ratel, from 70% to full charges less than an hour.
