Router Battery Backup

I just need it to power my OpenServe ONT and my Mikrotik.

Power outlet -> Mecer UPS (4x hours) -> 2x Gizzu (6x hours), 1 for ONT and 1 for router

It's overkill but I had everything so just chained them up. The ONT uses next to no power in comparison with the router. What makes a big difference is the switching the 5ghz wifi off (or rather, only using one wifi radio) and setting it's signal strength to low.

I am thinking of getting one of these Mini DC UPSes but I would appreciate the community's input.

I was originally looking at the Gizzu but I see that Geewiz also has some generic brands with bigger batteries.

Mini DC UPS (16500mAh) Backup Battery Power Bank Supply (44.4Wh) - 12V Router, CCTV, Wifi Backup (geewiz.co.za)

Mini DC UPS (13200mAh) Backup Battery Power Bank Supply (48.84Wh) - 12V: Router, CCTV, Wifi Backup (geewiz.co.za)

For reference here is the Gizzu:
Gizzu 8800mAh Mini DC|POE UPS - Black (geewiz.co.za)

Those look VERY similar to the units Vox allows you to rent. I have one through them and will be handing it back to them once the 1-year contract is up. Couldn't get one to buy when we started rolling blackouts again last year as every UPS in the city was sold out, so this was it.
Works well, but I want off Vox.

Unfortunately my routers are in the kitchen, so it has to be a very neat (and small footprint) setup. Our loadshedding usually lasts 2 hours, but we often see power outages of around 4 -8 hours due to a cable break or a breaker trips at the substation

Get 2-3x Gizzus, keep them charged and swop them out if you have a prolonged power outage? 1x Gizzu should get you through 2 hours quite easily, not sure how much time it'll have to recharge before the second round of load shedding though.

EDIT: or Ratel's or whatever. Basically a DC battery backup unit.

new to this so i have fibre and i have the ONT box and the router

will one device run both ?
Yes but the cables that come with it are horrifically short, unless your router and ONT are directly next to each other you'll need to either modify the cable yourself or get an extender.

yeh they are next to each other so thats fine

what would be a good one to use and is it simple plug and play like a battery pack

do you charge it via mains ?

Assuming the ONT and router both work using 12v it's easy as can be.

It's quite literally a power bank, you plug it in the wall, plug the provided splitter cable into the ONT and router and press the button to turn it on.

I got this one yesterday and after the first round of loadshedding I'm very happy:

Thankfully my router sits on top of my ONT.
I just got back from Communica. Got myself a Ratel 860P.
That just means you have to get the solar panel too at some point, for maximum independence.

If you have sunshine you have internet.

Plug and play, set and forget - if both the ONT and the router is 12V of course. We have 3 in the house and the thing laughs at loadshedding.

The Ratel 860P has USB ports and you can add a solar panel to it, otherwise they have the same size battery inside AFAIK.

Edit: I was thinking of the 430.

Hi everyone,

Anyone know where I can find a DC to USB-C cable or adapter to link a Ratel to my Amplifi router? If it matters, the router takes 9V. I am struggling to find the right cable.

Thanks!
