The ONT should also show its power requirements somewhere... Check underneath

Yep that's how I understand it as well.
But the ONT does not like the power from the UPS. No lights on ONT and UPS flashes a red light.
Router works fine on UPS.

Yep, it's a splitter from 12v port. I even tried ONT by itself.
Router and ONT - flashing red light on UPS
Router by itself - green light on UPS and connection works
ONT by itself - flashing red light on UPS

That's why I think I might just go with a big UPS that has a plug socket on so I can just plug the damn power adapter in...

Highly inefficient to convert ac to dc to ac and back to DC. Where are u based? Maybe a kind forumite can assist you in person.

Also what's the model number for your UPS
 
I suppose I could try without the splitter. Use a single cable and test it with the router and if that works, connect it to the ONT and check if that works

Maybe drop down to 9V and see if that works?

UltraLAN Micro UPS

That Mercer AC UPS is really just so you can shut down the PC not run anything for a long time, it's very inefficient to use it for the router and ONT

I suspect this UPS doesn’t have enough power (24W) to power on ONT.

Always double check polarity on UPS and device (need multimeter or refer to diagram) otherwise things can get damaged.

The problem here is these gate motor/alarm batteries get wrecked from stage 4 and extended power outages. These days, lithium is the way to go imho.

Had a reason to use the UPS yesterday.
The UPS powers router fine.
The ONT however was not happy, even with UPS/ONT only, so it's not a power issue.
UPS flashes a red light (I'm thinking this is 'bad'). ONT showed no lights, nothing.

The documentation on the UPS is pretty crap, not sure what the issue is.
I can only assume it might be a polarity issue?
Returning it to Takealot...

On the hunt again for a USP, battery pack...
Maybe something where you can swap polarity?

Ok it's not a polarity issue. Checked the adapters for both ONT and router and they match.
The ONT adapter does however say Alternating Power Supply, and the UPS says "...for DC Devices..."
I assume this is the problem?

The ONT is about 4 years old. Handles 2 x2.5 hours load shedding in one day easily. The Router back up is newer.

They dont come with power supply, and need 12v 2amp power supply. But they work! It is really a case of plug and forget.
