Router Battery Backup

Yes & no.

I bought it because it was relatively well priced at the R6,999 end of life sale - and I liked the fact that I could still use a 2nd (albeit proprietary) battery . But I soon learnt that they drop producing those batteries and even though they advertise them, you couldn't get any. A bit dodge, I think ... But other than that, it performs well ... can limit charging capacity to save battery ... can use high speed charging if needed ... 100w USB C ... etc

Would I buy another ? Nope !

River 2 is also R6,999 now with a LiFePO4 battery . They reduced capacity slightly, lowered the USB C PD, 600w I think… and a few other changes. I'd still take it over the 'negatives' of the new one .

But why for a router backup ?
Isn't that overkill?

I've just bought one of these for R1,800.00 for router
He doesn't want it for router backup (he has a normal Gizzu type mini-UPS for his router) - he wants to be able to charge two laptops, two cellphones and power a Nintendo Switch and External Monitor. Also needs a portable solution (with a Solar charging option) that he can use when they go camping (him and his SO like to go camping).

It says 100W, but can it push 100W through one USB-C output to charge, for example, a Macbook Pro that has a 87W USB-C charger?

Or is the total output of all the ports simultaneously "up to 100W"?
One of the reviews states:

You can also charge cellphones with the acceptation of My MacBook which I understand would need more power, great product so far.

The Lava/Elecstor/Evercharged is the same just different branding and are all silent no beeping fan never runs.

I just checked the usb c port it's not doing anything to my phone via the usb c to usb c cable but it does charge my usb-c headlamp  . The new one i bought for someone does the same thing.

I see they now give you all the adapters with it :). I just got 2 when i bought mine a couple of months ago.

I ordered the Gizzu 60W 69Wh mini-UPS From Incredible connection last week and received it today.

It is this version:

I chose this over the Titan because it does POE. Note: this is the newer 69Wh version that comes with LiFePO4 batteries.

When taking it out of the box, it was immediately apparent that the plastic top section is bulging, as if it is being pressured from inside.

If anyone with this specific version of the Gizzu 60W 69Wh mini-UPS can check theirs for similar issues and let me know, that would be helpful. I need to decide what to do.

I have that model Gizzu (got it back in Feb, but from Takealot) and it definitely doesn't have that issue, mine seemed well put together. I've never ordered from IC so not sure how easy it would be to exchange it in this situation (and if it still works ok and is just an issue with the case assembly) but it might at least be worth getting in touch with Syntech as they seem quite responsive.

I will also check next week doubt anything will happen this week long weekend delays . I ordered one from everyshop since no one has that model in stock (if only the titan had a solar input) next project when warranty is over :)

HiFi Corp, IC, Everyshop are all from JD Group they all get it from the same warehouse in JHB might just be a dud i would take it to a shop or return it before there is no stock. 11 units was available at the warehouse on Monday.

Sorry I see I didn't replies to me @AfricanTech - but I see others have answered

@Park@82 I took it as being the XBoost wattage on the original River, which is 1200w

Ours does 1800w on X-boost.

Strictly speaking it never "does 1800 W", but an appliance rated "1800 W (max)" might work, e.g. a simple resistive heater like a kettle, will turn on, but will heat more slowly.

It's clever. The devil is in the detail though with safely tripping constant-power loads that don't tolerate the lower voltage.

I know how it works (it drops volts, supplies the correct amount of amps and it doesn't actually put 1800w out). I was just stating that X-Boost is rated for 1800W in the SA version and not 1200W.

I really just used the figure as an identifier to narrow down the model

Fair enough and I guess the marketing department is happy with that too!

I know how it works (it drops volts and raises amps). I was just stating that X-Boost is rated for 1800W in the SA version and not 1200W.

Presumably because they have more current headroom starting at twice the voltage.

Genuine question: What happens with X-Boost plugged into 3000 W resistive load?

Why not ∞ W rating (just limit current rather than tripping?) and you can power a geyser & oven?

Guessing it will overload and shut down (maybe damage the unit) because it cant supply that many amps.

I also guess you will run out of battery capacity long before you can do anything useful with it at that big of a resistive load. i.e. your geyser wont be close to being hot yet but the battery will be depleted. Remember that the batteries in these devices are relatively small.

Mine was delivered yesterday by Takealot. No bulges.
The problem / concern i have is the unit does not seem to fully charge.

The 100% battery charge light stops blinking. However during loadshedding the battery indicator drops to 75% within 20 minutes and will stay at 75% for the entire 2 hr loadshed.

Does this unit need a full uninterrupted 12hrs to fully charge ??

Is it definitely the same 60W/69Wh model? I ask because I haven't seen it in stock at Takealot for a while, they only seem to have the older 60W/65Wh model which has different battery chemistry. (May not make a difference to your question, mention it more for the "bulge" issue that was mentioned earlier if it's a different model)

Anyway, mine definitely doesn't need a long time to charge, I left it charging for quite a while initially before using it the first time but since then it's been plugged in constantly and seems to recharge fine between load shedding cycles, it also got me through an 8hr outage without an issue. I just don't think those indicator lights are that accurate (on this or on other mini UPSs I've had before). After that 8 hour outage mine still indicated 75% which is unrealistic. I'd say as long as the light has stopped flashing when charging then it's fully charged.
