Also interested in this. Did OP buy the phone new? Did he use only Samsung charger? etc

I don't understand why this hasn't made headlines. It could be as dangerous as the exploding Note 4. God forbid somebody gets hurt.

Is on contract through Cell C.
Media 24 asked me for the story but I refused because I first wanted Samsung to replace my phone, or not..
Wanted to suss up the situation regarding which stance I take...
They made me jump through hoops, which I did... they then gave me a loan phone after 5 days...

I needed a phone badly.. could not even do an EFT without the phone. Yes I could disable the security feature, but did not want top go through the hassle only to reinstate it when I got a new phone.

Only ever used the original Samsung charger.

k, thanks, didnt know that,
but did the phone go if for servicing? where it got a battery change?

I mean its exceedingly rare for something like this to happen, I mean they test the batteries to destruction when they are made,
and that popping noise was the safety slots opening to let the pressure escape, but not catch fire.

if we were a society like in America, you could now become a millionaire by suing Samsung,

unfortunately here in SA, you'll just get a lollypop to say sorry...

I still think you should ask at least if there is a chance for success...

Phone had no issues prior.
Loved my S6 if I'm honest.

I did not sign any non-disclosure agreement.

Someone posted a pic and article of an exploded S7 in the Note thread. While not local it seems there's a small chance the thing can explode.

I need to stop keeping my Samsung near my head while I sleep.

did you sign a NDA now? (non disclosure now)?
otherwise this story should go viral, as it can happen to anybody, and people need to know what damage one of these phones can do .
I mean as somebody else said, what if you sleeping, what if it was in a baggage hold?

what if you didnt notice it in time? and got 3rd degree burns from it? would they pay for your medical bills, to get a skin graft?

seriously, if this was my phone, Id make a big deal, and not just a new phone from the thing,
Id want compensation, and the story spread far and wide....
phones can be replaced, people cant....

what were you doing at the time OP? was it DL something or just in your pocket there not running anything?
I mean this is mega rare, and you need to claim your fair share of compensation for something like this.

go to a lawyer OP, sue and sue quickly, a replacement phone isnt considered "compensation"
in America, the person that it happened to would live like evil Knievel now...

get a nice lawyer, say lawyer costs to be covered by the compensation, and sue the hell out of them,

check this link out, people have done this before:

Did not sign a NDA.. only thing I signed for was a loan phone which they told me to keep as my replacement.. eventually.
They did not reimburse me for my sim replacement.

Phone had nothing running in the background...
Was not on my phone doing anything at the time.. (was driving).

I did not want anything more than what was owed to me.. new phone, cost of sim and perhaps a little sucking up to me by way of an apology...
When I moaned about the treatment, (they made me feel as if I was trying to con them), he threatened me by saying he would speak to my bosses... Our office is in the same building in JHB...

That cheesed me off and I posted this thread.

I would have gone to a lawyer if I were you, this is no joke, it could have caused serious injury or even death (how often do people allow their kids to play with their phones for example)

You can't sue someone for damages that could have occurred, only for what did occur. Stop getting legal advise from TV.

Must have been bloody scary though.

This is what stood out for me "he threatened me by saying he would speak to my bosses". Did he/they do this in writing. If so - PLEASE screenshot and post here.

No, sadly this was on the phone..
They called me on my cell... i know all calls are recorded, so sent @samsunmobile a tweet with the reference number and asked them to listen to the phone recordings. I also specifically mentioned his name.

Samsung needs to hear about this thread and do some serious damage control.

Nobody gonna want Samsung anymore.

MyBB should write an article on this. This is dangerous, i'm sure SAMSUNG can investigate the cause and warn others. Is there a national consumer agency that certifies these devices for safety ? Is it ICASA?
