the word is that the official Jelly Bean release will repartition the memory and reduce it by 1gb or something like that. I am currently on ICS if I use Odin to flash JB will it take care of the repartition? And if hypothetically I were to then go back from JB to ICS would the repartition affect that or would it be fine? :)

I have flashed the leaked official JB 4.1.2, But there is n big bug with apn settings can't save or edit the settings. and it keeps on dissapearing i am on MTN. I can only acces the internet thru wifi. So i desided to flash back to ICS and everything is working now

You need a new SIM card to get 3G.

I must say, I have been seriously considering buying Mobile Odin of late. Does the "Keep Root" option work as well as it says?

Mobile Odin is the best app for flashing. Very easy to do and the phone stays rooted and there is no yellow triangle after flashing.

I've NEVER seen Chrome crash. And I use it everyday.

No Chrome crashes on my side either.

On your S2? And how was the RAM usage? Mine goes sky high with the JB Test ROM. :(

What ROM you using?

Well I never actively monitored it, because I never really though anything was wrong (memory usage wise). I've been running Omega JB for the past few months, and before that I used CM9/Resurrection Remix. I mostly always kept it up to date. But yea, maybe you browsed more intense sites not necessarily optimized for Chrome? Not sure :P

Now you made me laugh... Kinda ironic for me, but there are reasons why I always return to stock. I have tested about 7 different roms, 7 different kernels, 15 modems and combinations thereof and for me the following worked:
GB: CheckROM based in XWLA4 with ICS Domination (+ mods) and JKay deluxe - Siyah kernel (the one that came with CR) - whatever modem for SA at the time
ICS: Stock XXLPD with ICS Domination (+ mods) and JKay deluxe - Speedmod kernel - LPS modem
JB: NeatROM Lite 4.0 with mods - Siyah kernel - LS6 modem

Apart from stock, my favourite roms in order are Resurrection Remix, CyanogenMod and NeatROM (others not worth mentioning as far as my preferences are concerned)

Best kernel ever and by far is Siyah. GM develops and doesn't only cherry pick cool features from other kernels without proper testing.

EDIT: Oh yes... And I kept 58 stable nandroid backups. Did probably close to 80. That is a lot of flashing considering I had my S2 since 11-2011

Now that is interesting...

I have gone through about 10 or 12 ROM's (off the top of my head) about 6 kernels (not kernel versions- that must be about 15 then) but oddly only 4 modems that I can recall. Have tried it all from Samsung based, through to MIUI, AOSP, AOKP and even Boot2Gecko.

The best combos I had were:

GB: Stock rooted (didn't use GB for long).
ICS: Close call between AdyScorpius MIUI v4 with Siyah kernel and LPS modem and FoxHound ROM with Siyah kernel and LPS modem.
JB: Resurrection Remix 3.1.3 with Siyah v5 vsync and LPS modem.

Apart from the AOSP / AOKP ROM's, my favourites for a while were MIUI based ROMS. Never was a fan of stock ROM's, but the JB test ROM has worked flawlessly and I really do like it.

Agreed on Siyah being the best kernel- have never had a single issue using it, across all the CM9/10/AOSP/AOKP/MIUI ROM's that I have flashed. Will be a sad day indeed when GM stops development for it completely :(

I have not made even half as many nandroid's, because early on I didn't really care... Until I lost root and then lost everything in trying to fix it. Now I make a backup before every single zip that I flash. I have kept about 3 backups in total, just in case I want to go back and experience other setups.

On a side note- the jig works on JB, used it last night when I flashed the TAR of Siyah v6 onto the JB test ROM.

Does anyone know where to get a bicycle mount for the S2?

Preferably something padded and water proof.

Retail shop in Edenvale area or online.

help please. after upgrading to ICS the battery was fully charged last night and this morning i get a notification to plug in my charger. does anyone have a list of apps that can safely be stopped. i've done the power saving thing but it hasn't made much difference. or must i switch off or put the phone to sleep - how? or shall i just wait for JB?

thank you

Maybe the Chinese Place by Bruma might have something in one of the shops...

You need BetterBatteryStats (requires root). Will tell you what is hogging your battery and keeping your phone awake.

Definitely an app causing your phone to stay awake all the time.

tks for this but i'm way too nervous to fiddle with the system :-)), however you have been helpful as usual by pointing out that something's keeping my phone awake. so ...... here goes checking the apps, clearing data and cache.

samsung tell me that things like Accuweather which are shown on the screen will constantly update but that if i remove it from the screen, clear data, clear cache it will remain inactive.

I hope someone can help me. I was on Omega v17 and I did a fix permission. Since then, my phone is in a constant bootloop. I've tried everything and even loaded Omega v18. I also tried the Jeboo kernel and it's still bootlooping.

Try a clean flash using Odin. Last resort, but a good one.

Boot into recovery and full wipe?
