Samsung Galaxy S2

S2 is starting to show it's age. I'm getting tired of the abysmal battery life, it really makes the phone unreliable. Looking at a LG G2 currently, seeing as they will be available in Nov.

How long have you had yours for now? My standard battery is still holding charge pretty well after 14 months.

If you press any button on the homepage (and in between app-loads too) Google Search kicks in on the Chat. Very irritating. I wanted to see if there is performance benefits on the S2 too.

Ah, I see. I am using CM 10.1, and have Google Now mapped to a long press of my home button. It doesn't bother me anywhere else. I didn't notice any deficit when I started using it, though. Might be worth a try..

That makes 2 of us. I was looking rather favourably at the HTC One (getting 4.3 soon), but the G2 is a nice alternative. More recent hardware, etc.

It seems that a lot of S2 owners are up for an upgrade in the next few months. What are you guys looking at getting? Currently I am looking at the S4. Note 3 would be nice. Its just to big. LG G2 also looks like an alternative but I have never been keen on anything LG. So S4 is currently the frontrunner.

personally I think I'm aiming for the G2. It beats the samsung in about every department:

I am waiting for the note 3 but so far no word from mtn. If they don't get it by the 10th I'm thinking of going to Vodacom. S2 was an amazing phone

S2 is still an amazing phone to me.

Granted, I am using the extended battery and a 32GB SD card with it, so my experience might differ from someone who just uses the standard phone.

I could happily go another two years with it, so the Note 3 pricing better be decent. :)

+1 I am thinking of "upgrading" my contract to a sim only package when my upgrade time comes. Had my S2 for 1.5 years and still running like a dream.
I do have an extended battery though. And I take car of my things.

On Wifi during office hours as well as at home. I've turned off location services for today (was only enabled for Yahoo weather). So I'll see how it goes today.

Then it shouldn't be that bad, but I've seen location services drain a lot of battery before. If you're anyway going to upgrade in this year, I wouldn't bother with a new battery, although it will sure help. Doubled my battery life again.

What is your phone having wakelock issues? What's eating the batt in the battery performance page?

A nice help for me is to choose "Use only 2G" since I find 3G on Vodacom in my area utter rubbish so I only turn on 3G when I really need it.

On my Note2 with Slimbean 4.3 I got 4 days with about the same screen time as you I think.

Also worth installing Greenify to hibernate apps you're not using, in case something is perhaps still running and chowing CPU time.

Okay so location services didn't have a real affect on battery life at the end of the day. A colleague of mine is getting great battery life with the CM RC release, so I'm thinking of trying the stable 10.1 posted earlier. Other than that, my contract is only up for renewal in March 2014, anyone know if it's possible to pay off the last 5 months in one go to get an earlier upgrade? If not I'll consider getting the extended battery.
