I'm also going down this road. First need to figure out why my cwm is making tiny backups.

Will also do the better battery stats log

Did that too dude. Did not even put whatsapp. Just Google Acc.

Yesterday I got a new battery because I had tried all the software related potential fixes. With next battery, problem has persisted. No change.

I just wiped my phone clean clean clean. Deleted everything on internal SD and removed external SD. Flashed stock ICS, no root, no CWM. In 30 minutes I was down 5% and screen off the whole 30 minutes.

Get Vodacom/MTN/CellC whoever your SP is to swap out your phone the hardware sounds like there is something wrong.

Looks like you have a dodgy unit.

Since you rooted, why not use triangle away to reset your flash counter, then flash official SA firmware and take your unit back to samsung?

Before you RMA ur device, try battery calibration tools on the play store/xda. Sounds like the battery, not the hardware, as u said all is working well except with screen off. also what i sugest u try is install terminal emulator from the store, device rooted obviously, then type

- su ( followed by ENTER )
- dumpsys alarm ( followed by ENTER )

you will get stats for alarm_rtc wakelock which arent shown in BBS.
If you see anything that is higher than it should be under the alarm stats heading (look in below pic) then that could be your problem...

Hang on....did you root your phone?

Always a good idea to do a battery pull after you've rooted and leave the battery outside for 5 minutes, before putting it back.
 
Going to try 5 min battery pull quick, then the terminal command if pull is not successful.

Rooted/flashed all my devices and not needed to battery pull before. Is this something specific to the S3?

No, not specific to S3.

I did it for my Galaxy Ace as well & did see an improvement.

Go to xda and download better battery stats for free. Then post an over night log either there or here. I'll see what's keeping your phone awake.
Make sure to charge to 100 percent then unplug and leave phone overnight. Oh also reboot before you start the overnight test.

Battery pull is placebo bro, there is no evidence... i tried it, never seen any difference in any of my android phones... try it, maybe itll work but no dice 4 me

Ye, it seems that way. It just recently started doing this though. :confused:

I am going to RMA it tomorrow than give the replacement to my wife to replace her S2. On the lookout now for a good deal on the Note 2. That's the plan anyway.

Do you guys know if VC will replace the phone on the spot or will they keep it for eternity to test for themselves?
Only had to RMA once before for my first Transformer. I got a straight swap out there which was great.

Is it still within 7 days (might be more, think Samsung will give you a month, but not sure)? Then you can get it swopped for a brand new one.

If not, they'll send it in for repairs. Now here's the trick, you need to take pictures of the phone when you hand it in.

There are just too many stories of that lazy/incompetent? repair people at Vodacare who simply drop water inside the phone and then claim there's water damage and you must pay.
