Samsung Galaxy S8

Anyone having any similar issues with Google Play Services draining the battery quickly and using over 50% of the battery life.
I don't want to do a factory reset if i can help it, but it looks like that might be my only option.

Any feedback out there?

So, from personal experience I can confirm that replacing an S8 screen is a mission!

The battery does not need to be replaced, but you might as well while you're in there.

The chances of cracking the back glass when opening it are fairly high, but they're cheap to replace

A replacement Chinese lcd is about R3000

Yes indeed. Saw that the adhesive is a massive mission to remove. Hardryer to make it very hot and use something like a gautrain card that has be shaved off to make it a bit sharper on the edge to cut the adhesive.

Once you do that I would also recommend buying a S8 adhesive template because to get it water tight again is a mission.

The S8 no frame screen is about R1700 including shipping and R2750 with frame which is usually a better option since the screen is already stuck into the frame with adhesive.

I wanted to do the samsung mobile care but because 1 debit order failed in the start of the policy they drclined me even though they kept on deducting the money every month after that. What a massive fight I had with them still fighting for my money back. 1 debit failed but debited like 5 or 6 debits after that and now they want to be funny. Even offered to pay that extra but they insist the policy lapsed but they keep on pushing a debit order.

So now I'm thinking of replacing the screen myself.

Firmware update available on Vodacom again:

  • The Stability of Camera has been improved.
  • Security patch update
464.32MB

Where do we download? Cannot find it in galaxy apps or play store.
Hi. You'll need to sideload the APKs. The article contains links to goodlock and functionality apps on apkmirror site.

You'll also need to download an app called Quick Shortcut Maker (or have Nova launcher) this can be found on the Play Store

It's pretty straight forward thereafterScreenshot_20180621-202637_Google%20Play%20Store.jpeg

Anyone else experience this:

I've been getting 'fake' calls on my phone. This happened now 3 or 4 days in a row, at around the same time. The incoming call screen looks very different and no information shows on it. It even disappears leaving the ringtone playing and no option to do anything about it beside restart. Today I managed to answer but nothing happens yet the call counter shows. The call logs show nothing also. I'll try to take a screenshot if I can tomorrow.

I have not downloaded any new apps so I really cannot understand why. I have however downloaded the latest vodacom update with June security patch. Making me think its similar to the s9 problem of sending random images to contacts.

I'm on the same update and haven't had anything like that.

Cannot edit my previous post.
Truecaller picks it up. See image below. Around the same time everyday.

For those that did not know you can connect a external hdd to the s8.

I use the plug that came with the S8. Formatted the external to exFAT so it doesn't have file size limits. S8 reads the full 1TB hdd. Very cool. Now I can download some stuff I wanted from my extra Rain simcard on my S8 and play games on my pc without latency issues. :)

Yep, this is what's known at USB-OTG, one of the most underrated Android features. :) It is brilliant.

I have to hit some torrents on my Rain Mobile simcard so linked my HDD to my s8 which is on my wireless fast charger and downloading with Flud. Works great.

I just need to find a way to use cable charge instead. Wonder if a USB 3.0 hub will work...

Plug the hub into my charger. Now use a USB to USB cable from S8 to Hub and Plug my external into the hub too.

Wouldn't it be much simpler to just use the wireless charger?

I'm using a wireless fast charger but even with fast charging it feels like the s8 is not getting enough power. When you compare cable fast charging with wireless fast charging cable is like half the time.

Been running it a couple of hours and battery went from 12% to 44% while running the hdd and running a torrent client.

Downloading a 100GB torrent file to the hdd. Very interesting and it works pretty well actually. :)
