SARS eFiling 2022/2023

It would be interesting to see a distribution of how much forumites are getting back. Can't we get a poll going with different ranges?

I don't think ranges would be that interesting though. The reasons why would be more interesting.

Typically I get a refund for contributions to a Retirement Annuity and a loss on a rental property.

Other reasons that come to mind are medical payments not from medical aid, travel related expenditure and unemployment for a portion of the tax year.

I wonder what percentage of people get refunds due to HR's inability to accurately calculate their PAYE resulting in an overpayment of tax.

I was auto-assessed and paid out last week. Missing medical expenditures
(paying mom's medical aid), I reopened my assessment and edited it yesterday. I've received a notification that the updated assessment was completed without any additional verification (yet?). I've checked and the missing bits are included now.

So far this year's process has left me impressed

This year was a breeze.
Filed Sunday with no verification needed.
Paid out this morning.
Now if only they actually used the money, they take from me as efficiently.

My HR f**ked up tax calculations on some share options that vested so instead of getting a +- R9k refund I'm only getting a R2k refund... 2nd time in 3 years

In your case, what was the average turn around time ?
I was flagged for verification on Friday and was asked for travel allowance documentation. I uploaded everything on Friday evening. I received the finalisation letter yesterday afternoon with no changes made. I am currently waiting for the Statement of Account to update so that I can confirm the refund payment date. Verification was done in less than one working day. I was very impressed with the turnaround time. I expect the refund to be in my account by the end of the week.

That’s quick - I’m still waiting have a submit documents due to a rental lose

Where do you declare an income loss? I only know of 4214 which is for gains.

Search for "loss" then scroll to the codes starting with 4...

Has anyone who has submitted supporting docs received a confirmation that they've received them?
I know it says on the e-filing site that my docs have been successfully submitted but didn't get the usual e-mail and SMS from them....
