SARS eFiling 2022/2023

Hey guys

Last year I opened a company but plans changed so I am just leaving it dormant till I start it up again in a few years. What is the yearly retruns required and how much do they cost ? (Quote I got was like R 1800 for the year). Can one do your own company tax if its dormant and money in and out is 0 ?

Contacted Sable because it's close to end of Oct/deadline. They said my assessment is being worked on.

I can only assume based on other responses that SARS ****ed up this year?

**** if I know, they manage my efiling. Not sure if I can even login... probably, should check.

But I've had no income in SA so there should be fokkol to file.

Hey everyone!
I am running a bit late with my returns (due on Monday) and wondering whether I could get invoices for all the electricity I purchased via the FNB app? Trying to claim WFH expenses and would be great to have this covered. Thanks!

I filed on 8th September. Immediately audited as usual and they requested docs which I uploaded. 9th October I got a notice requesting additional documents which I sent immediately. Case was finalized a day or two later and money hit my account 14 October.

I just did the same via Tax Tim last night, paid about R600 and they will file the dormant company for me. I slept on this though, so might get a penalty.

Kinda weird, I got an email asking for additional docs last night - for 1 documents - that I already submitted in the initial submission.

Submitted a despute with SARS on the 19th of July. 90 Days have come and gone with no word from SARS.

Dispute turn around time is 60 business days, send an email to the Office of the Commissioner using [email protected]. I logged a dispute on the 7th August and am still waiting, my Request for Suspension of Payment was approved thankfully.

Still waiting for any movement on the dispute that has been logged because some SARS employee believes I should pay CGT on the entire selling price of our last house, ignoring what we paid for it, the improvements we did and that my wife and I owned it together. At least my application to suspend my obligation to pay the ridiculous amount they calculated was successful...

Looks like I am nearly done with my tax return for this years, SARS has corrected my ITR12 which they incorrectly completed, waiting for my refund to reflect probably early next week.

Got a letter from SARS on my dispute this evening, it was disallowed. Rental loss of three years in a row. No longer allowed to offset it against my income.

I received payment this morning even though I did not accept the auto assessment which does not include my medical aid tax credits.
This is credits for 3 members so it's quite a chunk of cash they would still need to pay out.
Hopefully there won't be any issues when I resubmit.
What a mission!

My medical aid tax certificate was not captured in SARS 3rd part data for some reason.
After a lot of back and forth, they allowed me to manually upload the certificate

Then they rejected because they wanted bank statements showing that I pay for medical aid
Since my medical aid is deducted from my salary, I had to get an affidavit stating that my medical aid is deducted on my payslip and not from my bank account + provide pay slips (which I would think would be enough since it clearly shows the deductions)

Our payrol system in the process if being migrated from on premis to cloud based with no access to previous payslips for now.
Luckily being responsible for infrastructure, I was able to connect and fire up the old server to pull my payslips.

Finally got my new assessment with an extra R11k being paid to me for the 3 members I pay medical aid for!

It has been over 90 business days for them even to start my assessment....this year seems to be a disaster

This is scary, because I have rental losses each year. It isnt exactly my fault the interest rates have kept going up.
I will research on this because it doesnt seem right

Not sure of the circumstances there, but this may be right? Assuming it's done in their personal capacity, I would think rental losses are ring-fenced? ie. you can't offset your personal income (excluding income generated from rentals) against losses incurred for rental business. So if rental losses exceed rental income, that amount is just carried over (where possible) and can only apply to the rental side. But I'm no tax expert, so seek professional advice where needed.
