I recently purchased 2 SATA DVD Writers, Liteon.
I've noticed since I've put them in that I'm having alot of kick outs (write errors etc) with these drives (I do alot of DVD 2 DVD copying) and I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this.

Is it because it's liteon drives or is it because of sata?

I had 2 LG IDE drives in previous and hardly had any errors, but now I'm having alot.

Suggestions? Thoughts?

mines fine (wrote allot of things already), just have an cod4 issue where the retail dvd is not picking up as legit...

...tried a firmware flash ?

Not really, I should try the firmware flash though.

What I did notice was, my Crysis DVD, it reads hectically in my SATA drivers... scraping type noises (Checked the DVD, it's not scratched)

i had those odd noises too, but not always.

Check it, another issue.

I have Verbatim disks which can write at 16x and I'm doing a DVD to DVD copy now (with verify after) and it's only burning at 8x

WTF?!?

I KNOW the blanks I got can do 16x because thats why i have 16x writers and HQ (high quality) 16x capable disks...

Something is def amiss here...

o well try the latest firmware if you have it not.

If you look around on the net, a lot of bad things have been said about Liteon. It's considered a "value for money" brand. And from my own personal experiences with Liteon, it's a POS that i'll make sure to never buy again.

I think I agree with OneEyed... I've plugged in my 2 IDE LG drives again and have just finished burning 3x DVD's with no errors!

I'm going to try burn a few more (with verify) and then try the LIteons again, if i have more errors, i'm tossing these out (or at least, not using them anymore)

Keep u updated!

EDIT: wrote 6 DVD's after this post... my suggestion, AVOID LITEON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have 2x Samsung 20x SATA dvd-rw's. Havn't had a single write failure.

Brawler, It's probably my drives... I can't afford to buy 2 new ones yet, but I will in the future.
I currently have 4x DVD writers in my PC! haha.

LiteON were a reputable brand a few years ago, but have recently slipped on their build quality.

I've used 2 Samsung writers and was disappointed that the tray-mechanism of the last one failed after a year. By comparison, a BenQ writer that I bought soon after the Samsung, i sworking absolutely beautifully almost 2 years later. The tray motor just sounds smoother and more controlled than the flimsiness of the Samsungs.

the older samsungs weren't very reliable, but i can assure you that the latest models are quite stunning. it's so, so quiet and smooth. i easliy burn dvd's at 16x.

Okay, just FYI:

I've put in 1 of the SATA drives and I'm burning HDD > DVD and so far, 4x DVD's written with no kick outs.

Now, previously, what I was doing was burning DVD > DVD and I was getting kick outs.

Should I assume that writting DVDS DVD > DVD (both SATA) is a bad idea or what?
