Skyworth Binge Android TV box

Lol..thats skelm. They buy box from cheap Chinese and put skyworth brand. There s no company making boxes in SA. They just putting ROM on most likely

The company that's doing this is owned by Skyworth. Boxes come from China, not sure if this surprises anyone.

Anyhow - I was lucky enough to get my hands on a field test unit. My unit did not come with Oreo but is still an amazing piece of kit for the quoted price.

Takealot started shipping these on Wednesday already, ahead of schedule. They pulled back launch as their was a issue with Google services that needed to be dealt with first (All Google certified boxes were affected).

When that was resolved stock was delivered and shipped.

I also tested the Mi TV - I honestly saw no difference. MI TV Vudu apps crashes all the time though. Its also a lot more expensive.

For those that have ordered and got theirs let me know what you think please.

Lastly - I never tried Netflix app as I cant be bothered :)

Thanks for the feedback. Just a question... the ones shipping from Takealot now, are they Oreo and no certification issues?

Correct. All units shipped are now Oreo and the Google services issue was resolved - was on Googles side which is why all Google certified devices were affected (Mygica/Xiaomi/Skyworth).

As for the comment about DStv/Showmax sponsoring them. They are simply allowing them to use their logos on their packaging and marketing material.

There is also a strong support structure in place for those worried about that.

Received mine today. Will test once home and give some feedback. Looks nice and more solid than the Telkom Lit

What's your involvement with the product? Sorry if I missed anything earlier.

It's not listed in the specs, but would this do 4k HRD?

60fps?

Don't have a 4k TV, but I'm looking for something future compatible.

Approximate size of the box ?

It's pretty tiny, it's 105mmx105mmx25mm.

Yes, in my testing it outputs at 4k@60 and will do HDR. The HDR implementation is bit finicky though, it will switch into HDR mode but then not switch back when properly when you stop the HDR content (maybe a Plex bug but it works fine on the Shield so maybe not).

My unit seems to have a habit of switching the language to Chinese (I think) on its own. It's happened once just browsing the settings and I can trigger it by restarting the box from Settings -> About - > Restart - the device will restart and after a few seconds the language will set itself to Chinese.

Setup was a breeze. Pickup my phone and did everything from there. Using Android TV remote. Allows to use phones keyboard. DstvNow and Showmax tested. Comes preloaded.

A similar thing happened on the lit box, iirc in tv settings you had to disable auto language

+1

It's got do with HDMI CEC - so as rodga says, turn off the auto language

Really happy so far, dstv now and youtube tested. Chromecast function also awesome. Will test steam link tonight.
