Smart outdoor security cameras in SA?

Passive injectors don't seem to work with much - I bought three and have yet to find something they wok with,

Eish what a waste then. Its a 8 port one that I bought since I have a few normal switches.

It's not a switch,it's a passthrough injector

They have their uses,but it's niche
You could use it to power 8x 12v cameras through your network,you'd add it just after a network switch

I did similar in my home network with the R550 XYtron IP cams before getting Active->Passive PoE converters to change over to Active PoE switches

I'm very interested to hear how the people / vehicle detection model fare.. positive vs false-positive strike rate etc

Yeah took a bit of a gamble spending the extra $60 on those two cameras but watched a few video reviews and they reckoned it was pretty damn good. Not the best obviously but good enough.

I'm just waiting for a friend to drop his crimping tool off next week and I will get everything up and running.

Needless to say I will share the experience here.

Did it with this method now, finally got it working. I think the Hook Up method will also work. Finally figured out why the images didn't upload to the Deepstack server. I found an old comment saying it ran out of memory, and I am running it through my HA VM, which I only gave 1GB ram to start testing. Bumped it to 2 GB and now it is working. Camera is recording on movement when confirmed by DQ. Now I need to figure out MQTT to get an alert to HA or I need to set up the Telegram alert.

Have spent the last few hrs trying to get this working properly:
  • For some reason only 1 of my 2 cameras that i have setup is saving to the aiinput folder
  • Some of images show the red highlight rectangle but there is no object in the rectangle
  • The AI History tab shows nothing even though if i go to Stats it shows that its processed almost 120 images - which is the exact number of images in the aiinput folder
  • Checked the log and for one of the detections there is this message >>
    Code: 
    ->Camera has no mask, the object is OUTSIDE of the masked area. Result='Relevant', Detail='Person (97%)', ObjType='Person', DynMaskResult='Unknown', DynMaskType='Unknown', ImgMaskResult='NoMaskImageFile', ImgMaskType='None'
  • What speeds are you getting for your detection submissions - i am seeing as high as 2000ms

I am running all of this on an old i5 2500 machine that is also my Plex server. Running HA in Virtual box, with deepstack inside that with Portainer. Blue Iris is also running on this pc (still on Win7). Processing time goes up to 4 seconds sometimes. Changing the CPU cores from 1 to 2 for the VM did halve it from 8 seconds, will still need to play around with settings to get it lower. Using an Nvidia GPU is supposed to be much faster.

Did you copy the first camera in BI to create the second one? Do they have unique names? In BI you can right click on the stream and select trigger now to see if it saves an image?

Are you running DS in low mode? That is faster but less accurate, there is a medium and high as well, but will probably take longer to process.

So it turns out the problem existed between keyboard and chair...
  1. I hadn't setup detection mask areas on my cameras - once i did this then that error disappeared
  2. I had misconfigured the 2 other cameras hence no images were being send to the aiinput folder
  3. The history tab seemed to take a bit long to populate but once the masks were set it was working 100s
So yes this method works and is able to identify people (walking, cycling, pushing a stroller), cars and identify them as such to BI with a % confidence - it even was able to identify cars at night
Will do more testing once we've moved and the cameras are pointing at different scenes at the new house

Which ones?

Got ones at Builders near Silver Lakes for R40 each but new one in CastleGate didnt have them. And ones they had were over a R100!

PS tried Builders Express in Lynnwood but no CBI breakers. Castlegate Builders had no CBI products.
