Smart outdoor security cameras in SA?

OK I managed to get the EZVIZ camera connected, via Wifi, to my HIK-Connect account.

1) Setup a separate EZVIZ account
2) Add the camera to that account, going though the Wifi Setup
3) Once it is on the network, I checked with the Hikvision SADP tool that it is indeed picked up and seen as a Hikvision camera.
4) Delete it from the EZVIZ account. It should keep the Wifi credentials in the camera (checked on my router that it stayed connected).
5) Add it to HIKConnect by scanning the barcode. In my case it just immediately added the camera to my account. If this didn't work, I would try to add it as "Connected via ethernet" instead of doing the Wifi setup again.

I'm now able to view it remotely without any issues in the Hik Connect app. Additionally, it seems to support many of the same features as it did in the original EZVIZ app.

Futhermore, I discovered that it also has a substream, which is useful if you want to record say 24h at a lower resolution. In the EZVIZ C3W case that I'm testing, the main stream is:

rtsp://admin:<verification code>@<IP or host>:554/H.264
or rtsp://admin:<verification code>@<IP or host>:554/Streaming/Channels/101
(1920 x 1080px, 15 fps)

While the substream is
rtsp://admin:<verification code>@<IP or host>:554/Streaming/Channels/102
(768 × 432px, 10 fps)
Do you know if there is a url for still image?

Been playing around with Camlytics free version and its got some pretty cool features for such a light weight app. I think I still prefer BI, but Camlytics is in no way a crappy app.

It picked up all cams from the moment I opened it and has some cool ways of adding the cams. You can add the same camera multiple times as different roles which I find quite cool

It is a little buggy though as it missed a event here and there, but that might well be because I only spent about an hour messing with the settings I could find

Anyone else used this one before? what do you think about it?

Any ideas on better camera placement. Using basic junction boxes (PVC W/PROOF BOX 100X100X57MM) from Builders Warehouse.

Most of my cameras decent enough but one at rear a problem. Moved it (night shot) but even worse coverage imho.

So need an arm?

Edit new position in daytime. It does now seem to give me a better view of space before windows.

Was thinking an arm would have allowed better direction and directing at windows. But maybe just position another on the other corner.

It does look like the first position was better.

Can you not turn it more to the left (so that points a little bit less at the window and more to the garden), and also down a bit so that it doesn't catch the roof?

I have a similar problem with this one of mine, to be honest -- it captures too much of the wall and thus exposes against the wall, which I don't really want. But I also do not want to point it too much towards the neighbours, whole idea is to capture the path down there...

Challenge is it somehow was too close to the window. The angle thus still gave an issue.

New position better in the day but looks worse at night. Must test how it looks with outside lights on.

Has anybody bought the RLC-810A?

I've ordered it to use at my front gate. Current RLC-410 5MP is fine but want the best image possible.

Considered the RLC-811A but not available and price at $125 bit steep. Also not sure if the zoom function worth the premium?

I'll wait on you to do a review for us :-) its in my cart on Reolink

So is there any consensus as to what the best locally available smart camera system is?

We have some highly organised white dudes stopping around regularly and canvassing our house and the neighbour's house (they're away it seems). Using DSLRs to take pics. One of the vehicles had an impossible number plate, and the most recent incident was just after 10pm last night. Atlas said they'd step up the monitoring outside but I don't see any sign of that being the case (we live in an area with a special Atlas relationship).

I have a dumb (non-IP) 4-channel CCTV setup that is only good for monitoring the gates and main outside area. I'd like to add something that provides real-time alerts to activity outside the boundary.

Personally prefer reolink but little local presence - see the YT reviews for their smarts.

Hikvision and Dahua are locally supported. Not sure how "smart" their stuff are. But you can get smarts via software like blue iris etc.

I already have a regular CCTV setup. I'm only interested in smart cameras in this instance. Not really keen for a massive IP camera setup with custom software. Most smart systems are small and self-contained.

I’ve recently acquired some Blink XT2 cameras and I’m completely blown away. Virtually the same as AJAX (which I also run) - it’s no wonder that Amazon snapped up the company.

Flawless operation for around a week now and running 7 cameras with 2 sync modules.

The app is outstanding, remote access couldn’t be better and the footage is great (I’m not even running at 1080p).

It’s a truly wireless system architectured around an app, battery saving and cloud storage.
