Smart outdoor security cameras in SA?

I bought an Ezviz camera from Cashcrusaders, but it is still linked to the owner so I cannot use the camera, essentially an expensive brick and that cash crusaders is not replying to emails.


Lesson for others, don't buy Ezviz second hand.

I have Reolinks. Thor thinks they're made of plastic and have inferior imaging sensors...
IMO the NVR software hands down beats anything I've used in the Hikvision line. Probably because I haven't used the same grade of Hikvision camera, but then that's what Im pointing out to @Thor. Apples with apples or you're wasting time. A R599 Uniview is not going to trump a R800-R1500 Reolink.

I have seen mentions on other forums of reolink cameras using inferior sensors etc. That said reviews on reolink cameras are positive on the whole and they seem to offer good value for the price.

MP isn't everything , 12mp blown up from a tjny shitty sensor will look worse than a 4mp from a good sensor. It could also be that the images are digitally blown up (upscaled) feom video captured at lower res. Also there will be a point at which the image will degrade if one packs too many photosites into a tiny sensor. Also as an amateur photographer I can tell you that sensor size matters, a tiny cellphone camera sensor will not capture as much light and image quality as a large full frame camera sensor with the same mp (same number of photosites). Also all sensors are not equal. In the mirrorless world Sony sensors significantly outperform Canon sensors of the same size in both dynamic range, tonal range & transition, sharpness and low light light performance. I have noticed that even my cheap 720p hikvision handles backligjtjnf (wdr I think they call it) better than newer gigs res cctv cams from other brands.

I've got this, very good. A bit finicky when the power or internet goes on and off. Look on YouTube, good reviews
 
For standard DVR/NVR setups, is it recomment to use CAT5 with Balun connectors, or CCTV cable?
 
Any suggestions for a PoE switch for Reolink cams? Needs to be compatible with a Mikrotik hap ac2... could use some extra ports for other stuff as well as my router is now full.

I only have one camera for now but would expand later to 8 max.

If you don't need managed ports,just a dumb switch thats cheap and does PoE the Scoop branded PoE switches,or their equivalent at uniterm are unbeatable pricewise

The Scoop switches with AI features look nice for cameras. Rarely some of my Reolink cameras hang, mostly after a power dip. Then I have to manually cycle them. The AI feature detects there is no data coming in and power cycles that port. There was no stock when I was looking so just got the normal Tenda ones, which work fine but don't have the AI. Will buy the Scoop one after moving to a new house.
