I laughed but thats exactly my position but also why i dont have any cameras inside the house. I will also move them all to a seperate VLAN with no outbound internet access in December as part of my network cleanup
What's the consensus these days on the best smart outdoor cameras available locally?
From what I can tell, the ones to get are the Eufy cams?
Specifically, the E40 which doesn't require a base station or wired power source:

They seem to have reliable notifications, don't require a subscription service, have enough onboard storage and have a decent app. Pricing isn't bad.

Seems they’re indoor only? I can’t think of any use for them then in my life. I like the HomeKit integration though.

Oh they say that on the box but been outside for two years now.
Granted under the eaves and not directly exposed.
I have seen some specific outdoor housings for them but never seen the need.
Still, not sure I'm comfortable risking expensive gear like that. Especially when Eufy stuff seems to hit the nail on the head.
The other Aqara smart home stuff looks pretty cool. Have you hooked up anything else from their lineup?

Yeah I spotted this drama. I haven't bought anything yet. Although this scandal might kick Eufy into going from shady privacy practices to industry-leading privacy, so perhaps a net positive.
Or maybe it makes them go out of business.

- 5 outdoor cameras. The yard is about 22m x 14m. Won't need to view more than 8m away in a straight line.
- Want to be able to view via an app on their phones
- Recording ability
- They said preferably (but not necessarily) wireless (as I can see how that would be problematic for data and power)
- It needs to be available locally. (Not wanting to deal with warranty issues... Unless there's a really reliable overseas brand that handles warranties well)
- They're looking for a budget setup and looking for "the simplest thing".
