STATIC IP for Telkom Mobile

Hello

I got the Huawei LTE-A E5186 router from Telkom. I need to have a dynDNS setup, to run an application for our business via VPN. But as far as I can tell (and see in settings) the router does not support DNS.

So second question... Does Telkom Mobile support STATIC IPs? Ive tried asking the call centre, but they don’t know what I’m talking about.

Does anyone know how else can I go about accessing the application remotely without dynDNS / Static IPs? Perhaps I can use my old Netgear router and link it via LAN to the Huawei router, will that work?

Thanks

So I have a Huawei B315 LTE router from Telkom. I also was disappointed because it didn't support manual dns. However mine does allow for DDNS. Regardless of this, I setup my old telkom router as a second wireless network linked via LAN to my B315. I was then able to setup my own dns on this router. So if your old netgear supports DDNS, then I don't see why this wouldn't work as well.

Oh, and your second question. I can't help you with a static ip answer from Telkom and if its possible. But what I can tell you is that my LTE router with Telkom does not refresh its ip every 24 hours like it did with ADSL. Only when you reboot the router do you get issued with a new ip.

B315s only allow dynDNS (which is paid service). It will make OP happy though.

Regarding manual DNS on B315s, it is possible. See post #9: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/800715-Huawei-LTE-B593-B315-setup-for-Unotelly-streaming
It should work on E5196, as tool was created/tested on that router.

I'm blown away. That post #9 is brilliant! Wish I had known that. Too bad unotelly isn't working for me anymore. Had to move over to a VPN service. Its more expensive, but it works well.

Thanks.
I realized my B315 at home supports DDNS. But not the E5186. Why would that be? I assumed it would, seeing as it's a more powerful device?
I would like to use my existing dynDNS account, is there no way I can set it up on the E5186? Or should I just swop the 5186 with my home 315 to be able to use the DDNS feature... Maybe that's easier. I use CCTV and two POS apps with my dynDns account, it's just easier to leave it all on the account...

Yes, E5186 firmware is more crippled than B315s. You can swap, you will benefit from ac WiFi.

If you chose to not swap, try to use E5186 Toolbox to enable DDNS (blocked on my B315s unfortunately): http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...x-for-new-Huawei-HiLink-devices-(E5186-B315s)

And new firmware for Telkom B315s as reported here: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/797598-Port-forwarding-and-DDNS-on-B315s-936
